Tenyo items I have used (or would use) for a professional show:
Newsworthy Tear (a version of the torn and restored newspaper; more or less this is the same as the Gene Anderson Torn and Restored Newspaper) In The News (water in newspaper vanishes and reappears) Water Suspension (Tenyo's version of Lester Lake's Wa-Ter-Lu ) Chameleon Silk (a silk handkerchief changes color from red to yellow to green) Crystal Tube (three single silk handkerchiefs placed in a clear tube are magically tied together) What's Next (spots on a domino multiply in a mysterious manner, which the magician apparently explains as an optical illusion, but then the spots really do multiply) Milk Tumbler (milk poured from a glass vanishes) Rice Bowls (Tenyo's version of the Al Baker Rice Bowls) Million Flowers (flowers from fingertips) Tenyo's Devil's Handkerchief (utility item ; nicely made Devil's Hank) Ballerina Hank (Tenyo's version of Steve Dusheck's Waltzing Matilda) . |

None of the recent ones have really tickled my fancy though I have dug too deep into them. Many older ones (that I don't have yet) seem fun but require taking out a second mortgage! Many of the "Magic Works" from Milton Bradley were Tenyo, but many were not. I have the 3 electronic ones, and one has a "spooky" theme. They are a lot of fun even for adults. Not "professional presentation" worthy, but I'm not a pro.

The gimmick is probably how most magicians perform that trick. I have "Rice Bowls" from an old Marshall Brodien "TV Magic" set I got as a kid. If you're familiar with it, how different is it from the Tenyo version? I only remember trying it once as a kid cause it was kinda messy. Never tried it again.

A good, well-made set of rice bowls using the traditional method (as per the plastic rice bowls) can be MUCH more dependable , but the risk of a spill is still there. (a thin film of petroleum jelly smeared on the rim of the bowl can alleviate the risk, whether using the cheap plastic bowls or the nicer metal or ceramic professional bowls) The Al Baker version of the Rice Bowls effect uses a different type of gimmick which is surefire. It won't prematurely detach and spill water everywhere. Tenyo's version was the same as the Al Baker version. White ceramic bowls. To me they look like cereal bowls , so the effect can be done with puffed rice (Rice Crispies) and it's not quite as messy as regular uncooked rice. Either way it's a superior version of the Rice Bowls effect, imo. Favored by performers such as Al Baker (natch!), Charlie Miller, and Roy Benson to name a few. I remember one set of plastic Rice Bowls coming with two thin metal strips that would serve as a platform on which to set the upside down water loaded bowl with the plastic disc.
Plan "B" was to be sure to have a few grains of rice on the tray. The upside down water loaded bowl woud be set upon these loose pieces to mitigate the risk of the disc coming loose from the bowl. |

I'll add this Tenyo item which I would use for a professional show:
Rope to Silk. There are many versions of this available ,but Tenyo's is better made than most of the other ones I have seen. Created by Swiss magician Mac Jen; originally released by Werry in Germany and by Edwin Hooper (Supreme Magic)in England as 'Mac Jen's Hanki-Rope'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vJzCiBHk6w ![]() |

I use the Tenyo Koornwinder Kar. I prefer it to other models as it can be set to roll freely or reveal the card. I also like that it is a generic plastic car. It looks like a toy car you might find in the generic toy section of a general store like Target or Walmart.
