I know this has been posted in other areas, but since this forum category is new, I'd thought it should be included here, too.
There is a wonderfully informative and entertaining documentary film about Long Tack Sam written and produced by his great-granddaughter, Ann Marie Fleming. The film would be of great interest to magicians. Check this site for more info. http://www.longtacksam.com/

We had a special screening at the Magic Castle not long ago. Ann Marie answered questions after the movie. The event was hosted by Gordon Bean. The film is very good, regardless of my love of magic. It reminded me strongly of Vonnegut, especially when we see the picture of Bobby (Long Tack Sam's son), an Eurasian kid, standing right behind Hitler on a high school yard. Powerful.

Ann Marie has just published the book (Sept. 4, 2007) based on the film. It is a whimsically illustrated boigraphy based on her research for the documentary. I have not seen the film, but after reading the book, I will definately be seeking out a copy of the DVD.

I have seen this and it is one of the most interesting pieces of TV I have seen in a LONG TIME!
Very informative and well produced. Some of the things that Long Tack Sam did were truly amazing!
I am truly blessed to have a job where people are laughing all the time and everyone believes in magic....Come to think of it, I'm blessed to even have a job.

I bought the DVD on Michael's say-so and was not disappointed. It is a wonderful biography and the best part is that it was not made from a magician's perspective, but from that of a family member trying to discover her background and history within an entire family. When magicians write biographies of other magicians, they tend to lose focus on the human side of the magician's life and concentrate only on what is of interest to them- the magic. I would love to see a magic club commission Ann Marie Fleming to do a similar biography of the club's namesake, to see if she would do as careful and as loving a job as she did with her grandfather, but especially to keep her focus on the person and not his magic.

Does anyone know where I could find any Long Tack Sam memorabilia? Picturs, posters, etc? Know of anyone that has anything?
