Got mine today. Never had the first version but have been doing similar routine with a variation on the gimmick (mostly purchased for the gimmick as I also use a similar gimmick for a totally different routine too) and wanted to see the quality of the gimmick over my homemade one. I watched the entire 1 hour 45 min video and it is very well explained as well as full of interesting ideas. Totally worth the price of admission. My only "con" (if I had to name one) is Penguin should have included maybe 1 round and 1 rectangular "something something" that could be added with a tad of 2 sided tape for the other effects taught. I have a bunch (I am also a self gaffer) but many will have to source it when it could have been included very inexpensively. Just my opinion.
Nice upgrade to the effect Craig. Amazing savings of pocket space. Plus you don't need to carry your own cup either, so close up case space saved. I'm gonna go full on Ryland and give it 150 out of 100

I'm a Craig Petty fan. That said, as I watched the first magical drop of the bill, I thought, "...ripped off Axel's 'Just a Cup' method."
I own Just a Cup. Even before starting to work on Axel's routine, I was devising ways to dump the leather cup. I used neodymium magnets in my act in '92, so creating a tool was easy. I'm still going to get CHOP, but mostly for the BIL method. I've been after a real time BIL method for we'll over a year; maybe Craig's routining and method will work for me. |

Please don’t say I’m ripping off axel’s routine. Firstly most of the moves possible with Chop could not be done with Juste. cup because the gimmick is not stuck to your finger. Secondly both JAC and Chop were released at roughly the same time around a decade ago. Also the move in question was done before either of us with PK rings. We both adapted it to the gimmicks that we use in our routines. There are (I think) 12 sleights with Chop and only three of them could be done with a PK ring or JAC gimmick. Most need the chop gimmick to work.
I love Axel’s routine but it is very different to chop for many reasons. Just FYI my inspiration was Cocktail Surprise by Joe Porper which put the gimmick into a magic wand. Hope that helps. |

Hey friends,
William Zavis routine was published in his book Divers Deceits by the Goodlife Magic Company as well as on the Videonics series. He describes there how to build the Magnet into a pencil and he uses a disposal coffee paper cup. On the Video he used a metal collapsible cup used for camping or outdoor. I made a short video of his original routine: https://vimeo.com/539576348 btw. check out Nicolas Nights Routine Enigma his gimmick is more similar to Axels fantastic Just a cup. |

I bought Chop in my latest Penguin haul, I haven't received the package yet (I live in Australia so it always takes a while), but I've watched the tutorial and it's absolutely amazing! I've never done chop cup routines before, but this is ingenious. I absolutely can't wait to start practicing this one, great work Craig! Chop is next level.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, I really appreciate it.
I have been demoing this at Magic live over the last few days. We sold out by the end of the Thursday. There has been a huge buzz around the booth and everybody seems to have picked it up. Even David Copperfield had wonderful things to say when he watched the routine. Thanks once again for everybody that has kept this in the top five of penguin products for literally three months now. I really appreciate it. Any questions please let me know |

Hey Craig,
I see it's sold out everywhere I look. Any chance, you'll be sending these out to Penguin, Vanishing, etc anytime soon? I'd really like to pick this up.
John knows!

I got mine and like the new moves and ideas.
Due I perform to different countries, it is becoming more and more common to find plastic banknotes. So, I decided to use a paper ball for my chop routine. |

I love Chop. I purchased this latest version and I am very happy with the prop, the gimmicks and the routines. I look forward to using this for my family Christmas show in December. Brilliant!
That being said, I am a fan of Hecklau's Just a Cup (JaC). I purchased my set from Axel after seeing his routine firsthand in a lecture. Since I am a technical person by nature, Craig's statement about "most of the moves possible with Chop could not be done with Juste. cup because the gimmick is not stuck to your finger." bothered me as it is factually incorrect. I went back and watched the Just a Cup explanations again to familiarize myself with all the teaching. Every single move that can be done using the Chop gimmick can be done with the JaC gimmick. Every one. In addition, it is factually incorrect to state that the JaC gimmick is stuck to your finger. The JaC gimmick is HELD (secretly) in the hand just like the Chop gimmick. The JaC gimmick can be ditched if needed (explained in the directions). That is not typically necessary because of the way the gimmick hides unseen in the hand. I am not hating on Chop, again I love the product. It is brilliant and I look forward to successfully learning and performing it. Neither trick is inherently better and both can do pretty much the exact same things with their gimmicked props, with the only difference being (other than the props themselves) that you are holding a sharpie during chop phases whereas in JaC, you appear to be holding nothing but the cup and die. Additionally, I noted a few people were concerned that the strength of the gimmicks could cause some noise issues. It just so happens that KandJ magnetics sells this 3M bumpon material that works extremely well in diminishing the noise while maintaining gimmick strength. I've personally applied this stuff to my gimmick and I'm happy to report it works marvelously. Quote: On Apr 28, 2022, Craig Petty wrote:

What can I add to what’s already been said? Apprently nothing.
Hmmm, owning several chup cups, and Just a Cup, and Enigma etc. I have to say - Craig hit a homerun with Chop, and the Bill to Lemon method (apparently deviced together with David Peen back in time) is just perfect. I think this stands out as the easiest method to achieve most types of moves - and the bill to lemon mehod lifts it to a fantastic conclusion. My preferred version going forward. I’m really happy with this purchase - highly recommended. Jan |

I never actually accused you of ripping off Just a Cup. I just said, "...my first thought..." was that it was a rip.
But now, to clarify and set the record straight, NOT A RIP-OFF. Chop quenches my thirst for an informal/organic chop cup AND solves my quest for a no prep/minimal prep bill in orange. Thank you, Craig, for getting me to use two "Q" words in the same sentence |
