“If you beat me at this simple and fair card game I will let you leave hell.” - The Devil

You play the Devil.

This is Billy's story, a guy who finds himself in hell, he can’t believe it, he just doesn’t belong in hell, he lived his life honestly, he was loyal, he was a good guy, did the right things, played by the rules! What the hell is he doing in hell?!

So he asks one of the devil’s minions to please take him to the devil, that he urgently needed to speak to him to figure this thing out.

The minion takes him to the Devil’s chambers, and the Devil, smoking a cigar, surrounded by gorgeous dames, quietly hears him out.

The Devil takes a liking to this Billy guy so he suggests a little game, and if Billy wins, the Devil says he’ll let him walk right out of hell.

Simple as that.

Naturally Billy is suspicious but the devil assured him it would be an extremely fair game.

For real. Finally Billy agrees to play.

D - We’ll be using a pack of cards, the Devil’s pasteboards.

B - Oh no, I’m not comfortable with you handling the–

D - Calm down, will ya! It’ll be fair, trust me.

And the game is indeed fair, completely fair, all the way through ... yet Billy never gets to leave hell HAHHAHHHA HHAHHA HHAHHAH

Then there's The Possessed Deck, something you picked up on eBay because you're into these sort of things. Energy from the devilish thing will channel through you and the subject generating a result that can only be explained through paranormal means. A frightening conundrum.

Could these themes be explored in a totally fair way using playing cards in an baffling, easy as Hell, self working routine?

Yep.

I'd think it would be funny to let Billy win the game only to be released and find out it is God, and not the Devil, who has the power to condemn and is returned to Hell.

Well, Billy is just not that wise, but that would be funny and it can easily be done with this as you can choose to win or lose.

In fact, let me tip something here, this can be played as a swindle game, I've done it, it's fair as can be, totally above board, yet you can choose to win or lose by any margin you want so it seems even more like a fair game. Very devilish. In the manuscript Billy loses big, but you can choose to balance that out to win or lose by smaller margins. If you have this and don't know how PM me.

True story ...

I was with a small group of friends, couples, etc, for food and drinks at a local lounge here, I had done a couple of psychic things with my cards, these people know I do these sort of things. So when it came down to paying the bill it was down to me and this other guy who like me loves casinos and games, so I suggested we play for it. Of course I was laughed off because they know I do card stuff, but I said "no seriously", this was a vintage gambling game played in the old west, totally fair!

I said if at any point anyone thought this was not totally above board we would stop and I'd pay the bill. I was prepared to pay for it anyway, just figured I'd throw this in last minute.

I then explained the old game with some old west history and began ... as fair as can be, no one raised any doubts, and I set it up in such a way that it was a close win for me. Needless to say I didn't pay the bill and gave the deck of cards to the mark as a gift.

Slept like a baby that night.

Here's why ...

This guy loves casinos, he happily spends money (and sometimes wins as we all must) knowing very well the casino has an edge on every single bet he makes. So why not play the house for a change and have a guaranteed edge while introducing a fun game. It's exciting and fun.

I know what some of you are thinking ... gee, Alex, you're a scumbag because the guy had no chance of winning, you're no different than the Devil in the Devil's Game, it was a con job.

And?

He's still driving his 7 series BMW and remembers the night fondly. Win win. I didn't kick a guy while down, that would be unethical.

Which reminds me, if any of you are into solid swindle games, go get the Devil's Game, and let me know because I'll introduce you to a couple of little known games out there still available so you can have some fun, including my own rare and exclusive Bingo Bango.

As an aside, and for Free, I can hook you up with the pro guide to the Lucky Dog if you can prove you own it with the code, also new instructions and an unsettling presentation with the Tivoli Wheel Bill Montana and I put out ... and other stuff.

Oh ... and never play cards with the Devil.

But you already knew that.

Usually, the downloads are available immediately after purchase but occasionally it can take some time depending on how fast our merchant processor informs our server that payment has been rendered. Occasionally, certain parts of the Internet are congested, services are temporarily down, or some other technical problem prevents it from happening promptly. With Paypal in particular we have seen several hours of delay every now and then. If the download link is not enabled after 24 hours then there can be a problem that requires manual intervention. In those cases, an email to me is helpful.

I emailed and it was resolved. I never had a 90 minute delay before for an "instant" download... Maybe revise the verbiage on the download page to address this?

Maybe:

If your download isn't available within XX minutes, please contact us via our email below to resolve.

...i had no clue how long was too long to wait for an instant download...

Technically it is a PDF download. EVERY site I have been to the download is either instant or within a few minutes. Your site gives no indication of the time frame. When I emailed, Chris Wasshuber replied:

"Should be working now."

Which would indicate the site had an issue maybe?!? Does it normally take 90 minutes to have a PDF ready? Should you perhaps set expectations on when it will be ready?

The only direction given is this:

"The underlined product name on the left is your primary download link. For most cases a simple click on it should allow you to download your purchase. If this does not work you can also right-click with your mouse (CTRL-mouse-click on MAC) and choose 'save as', 'save target as' or 'save link as'. (If the suggested filename is 'download.php', which happens for example in Firefox, change to 'something.pdf' or 'something.zip' etc. depending on the file type.)
Don't forget that all your purchases and download links, including additional download servers, are also available on your Digital Shelf."

No info above on timing. But I would say 90 minutes is a long time (made me concerned that there was a problem) and would it have been longer if I had not emailed asking about it?

You can argue semantics with me or you can take this as feedback. Seems that the later may be more constructive...

It was a genuine question. Our site is huge. I was wondering where we claim 'instant download' so that I could address it.

That assumption probably started here:

And of course with all of my prior pdf download experiences on other sites. Maybe just add a note that the download should be available within 15 minutes (or whatever time) and if it is not to email.

Best wishes.

Hi saturnkk, I wrote the above because over the many years I've purchased (and sold) on Lybrary, I've never had a purchase not become immediately available to me. Never had a problem at all.

I don't own Lybrary.com or am employed there, so my reference to "available instantly" was merely based on my own customer experience.

I'm happy you enjoyed The Devil's Game. Thank you.
