I have been hired to perform at a visitation and later for a funeral.

I imagine people may not be in the mood for conversation, so I'm hoping to find tricks that don't require much dialouge.

Based on the setting, I'm hoping that I find what will come across as respectful and tasteful, but I'm not sure what that is. Is it more appropriate to do fun uplifting effects, or more solemn darker types?

This will be my first time performing in this kind of venue, and would appreciate any input for others that have been hired for these.

April fool?

I ask as it could go either way since I once did a show at a funeral home myself.

Of course, it was a private party for the owner of the business there but you never know.

If it's a closed casket funeral, have the organist play "Pop Goes The Weasel", as you attach a suction cup crank to the casket and start turning it.

If it is a memorial and the deceased has been cremated, perhaps Ashes on Hand.

I did magic tricks for people when I was like 12 at my uncle's funeral. It was the beginning of my obsession with magic and I couldn't think of anything else at that time in my life. It's a weird embedded memory I have with slight embarrassment. Was totally not the place, but is funny in retrospect.

What did you end up doing?
