I just picked up the Dai Vernon Book of Magic and came across this effect. The description sounds wonderful, but I am finding it hard to understand the first phase, particularly how it should look when the first coin is "magically" removed. Is there a video of someone doing this trick on the internet, just so I can have a visual reference?
Any help would be appreciated. Michael |

Look for info on this trick by Tenkai! His version was masterful. It should look as if you work the coin thru the cloth, and repair the opening the coin came thru. THINK that you are separating the threads of the hank so that the coin can be squeezed thru, then "repairing" the cloth after you remove the requested coin. Acting is believing...

Michael,
Ditto on the Tenkai handling. It's in the Pallbearer's Review, published by Karl Fulves long, long ago. I don't think it appears in the "Magic of Tenkai" but I could be wrong. As regards penetration, the only thing I can add to Mr. Chosse's comments is that if you really apply the subtext he's described, you'll realize that the focus of the effect, and therefore your focus as well, should be on the CLOTH. The cloth magically opens and closes, the coins are merely incidental. You almost ignore them.

Hey Mr. Kam, and Mr. Chosse,
Do either of you know which issue of Pallbearer's it appeared in? Would love to look it up. Thanks, Nathan
