Thought I'd pop in and say that Jerry Hornak sent me his rope routine and patter as promised, and it's very good. Easy enough to get the props together and has a lot of great interactive parts as well.

It is common to try to make the birthday child the star of the show by having them assist in a couple of tricks. Something that plays well for me at birthday parties is to perform Chords of Phantasia. I have the birthday child hold a box (I have a couple of different boxes I have used which include a wooden box as well as a cardboard box) with a wand going through the top and two sets of ropes coningkut the sides. I attach either silks or rings to the ropes. The child walks through the ropes at the end of the routine. Build up the climax. Use two parents (maybe even the child’s parents) to pull the ropes as the child “walks” through the ropes. And you can do it so a knot is in the center of the ropes at the end of the routine and not simply that the know disappears.

What is that effect called where the magician wraps a rope around 1 or 2 kids and pulls it through their body or neck?

Dan,
I don't know what it is called, but I know how to do it. Pm me and I can explain it if you need me to. I don't recommend it around the neck. It is safe, even if it goes wrong, I'm just sure some parent would object. |
