UV = Crime Scene. Just an idea...

Although I perform tricks for my friends and family, I would still consider myself as a lay person who loves seeing magic performed. I get excited whenever an email from various sources hits my inbox, claiming to be the best trick out there. If I was shown any of the effects using Lux, I would honestly think the gadget did the trick, which would diminish the wow factor for me. I'm sure others who see it, will be enthralled and mesmerised and I applaud the invention, but I know my mates would definitely say to me, its a trick gadget. I am in no way trying to put off anyone buying it, as its horses for courses, but I'm just giving one lay person's opinion.

I disagree with buying a knock off of magic. If you like it buy it from the creator and support him. That's why magicians don't like putting stuff out. It's Lloyd's affect if you like it support him not China. It's called respect.

Sorry if I missed this in 17 pages of discussion, but I'm curious if David Copperfield's UV light reveal is related to this release? In his Las Vegas show, a selected word slowly appears on the wristbands of everyone in the audience under UV light. It seems to be the same or a similar method, just on a much larger scale.

I was just pointing out the sad reality of what will happen. For instance- I purchased a padlock directly from Michael Murray. Awesome routining, super clever method- a real mind blower. Sure enough, a simple 'padlock prediction' search brings up pictures of the lock and where it can be purchased, including the aforementioned Chinese knockoffs on Amazon. Now- from what I understand, the Amazon knockoff is not the same method or gimmick as Mikes- but it looks exactly the same so who cares? People will see that you can buy a trick lock and figure that's exactly what they saw demoed. |

There's a lot of smarts that need to go into this device to make the colors match, the fading in/fading out, etc. I honestly would be surprised if there's a knockoff for this that actually does what this does. |

It is indeed advertised already, as I feared it would. I’m cancelling my order.
Merchant of magic. Just typing ‘UV magic trick’ into google brings up so many effects it’s quite laughable. |

I’ve seen this live a few times and I love it. I don’t mind the marketing and the price is great. I’ve pre-ordered mine.
I’ll be using it as a physical representation of what happens during mind reading and thought/energy transfer. We can only see from infrared to ultraviolet, which is less than 1% of the EM spectrum. For presentation, Lux allows us to take spectators to the very edge of what we can possibly, physically see, then a glimpse beyond. You can justify carrying the torch because of what it allows you to do. If you didn’t carry it, you wouldn’t be able to share the experience you create with it. Exactly the same as randomly carrying a deck of cards. I think that if spectators are googling your props after they’ve seen you perform, then you didn’t carry the props, the props carried you. I can’t wait to get my hands on this! |

It’s a great shame but I personally only perform effects that are non searchable by standard keywords. Unfortunately this effect is extremely vulnerable to search, post performance, and it will be all over YouTube and google alike, as it already has begun to do so.
Magic shops want to advertise, of course. This is great for anyone selling, but not performing. Quote [We can only see from infrared to ultraviolet] delete from, insert between. |

Everything from the end of infrared to the beginning of ultraviolet if that’s better

This is a controversial area but I don’t believe that’s true about the general statement of “if spectators end up googling to try and find the secret you didn’t really entertain them well enough” etc. In fact it’s quite the opposite, you have fooled them that bad that every logical answer they come up with is not plausible and acceptable for them for how you did what you did. Peoples brain needs a answer to how you have done something and often they settle on a theory (when chatting with friends when you leave) that is miles away from the actual method to satisfy their curiosity. Men are worse than women as far as needing to know and especially in certain peoples professions or work eg engineers etc, their job is to solve problems. So for them to be ‘fooled’ by this ‘puzzle’ they have just seen which they know isn’t real magic and just a ‘trick’ because you are a magician, really grates on their curiosity as well as being entertained.
So the fact people Google and YouTube how something is done (which a lot do) actually shows the opposite in the analogy and you have fooled them that bad they got no where to go with the brain accepting a possible theory so it leads to them having to ‘solve the puzzle’ by searching for it. I know this is true from experience of being a worker and guests saying “I seen a magician recently and have no idea how he did this, that etc. it bugged me so much thinking about it I had to Google it” then they laugh as they say it. So yes it happens quite a lot despite us being naive thinking it doesn’t. |
