Salutations! I have a show coming up here in Los Angeles, and I have a few posters advertising it that I'd love to use. However, I understand that I could get in trouble if I just go willy-nilly hanging them up on random walls downtown. My question to you all is what do YOU usually do with posters for your show? The usual community center, library, etc., or something else?

The show is part mentalism show, part one-man play, so I'm thinking a theater-going crowd who enjoys plays. Age-wise I'm thinking 30+

Why not use the theater list itself? I mean it seems to me that it might be a hard thing to convey a “part mentalism /part one man play” in a poster.

Wait after reading that post again you didn’t say theater I added it sorry.

Next time this might be something better considered prior to securing the booking.

You can ask businesses to hang them for you. They can put whatever they like up.

Right now I’m printing simple flyers that feel like a mini poster. People appear to like to have these and take them Willy nilly. I’m loving the idea that they’re hanging up on peoples fridge as a reminder.

I stop by every local business and try to tell them about the show and ask if they have a place to hang a poster / flyer. I usually have a full page "poster" and 1/2 page flyer available. Some businesses will want to take both and hang one on the door and another by the register. Some businesses wont be able to hang it publicly but will hang it on the employee breakroom so that employees will know about the event and can tell customers about it.

Since I am advertising a family show I usually get lots of luck from local businesses especially restaurants, ice cream parlors, coffee shops, bookstores, etc.
