A thick piece of black electricians tape covering half of a white bic lighter has always been my favorite paddle effect. Color changing lighters, You can't get a more ordinary everyday item.

Jean-Luc Bertrand has an excellent paddle effect called No Smoking. It invloves two lighters and ends with a climax of turing two lighters into one which is a real surprise for people. A demo video can be viewed at Hocus-Pocus' site.

I also have a routine using 2 bic lighters and day dots which takes the spectator into the past and into the future. If You are not familiar with day dots, they are used in the Rest. business to label food products for freshness rotation. Lotsa magic to be had with these.

I'd like to revive this thread again.
Speaking as a beginner and hobbyist, I love paddle tricks. They're simple to learn and easy to entertain with. I saw a kid's performer recently with 2 wooden paddles -- parrot in a cage. You start off with 1 blank paddle on one and an empty bird cage on the other. I looked high and low for this and could only find 2 sources for it on eBay and ordered a set for about 11 bucks. I have found the adults and kids around me all really appreciate this trick and are amazed by it. Using 2 paddles at once I think really adds a magical element to the effect. A 6 year old budding magician whom I was showing how to do this yesterday came up with her own great explanation of a companion for the other parrot who was trained to go into the cage. She was having so much fun with the story and had the adults riveted.
Barnhardt: You have tested this theory?

Hello Trekdad
That's a great storyline! You might also enjoy some of the older paddle tricks that have been remade--Jumping Gems, Crosstown and a plethora of dot tricks. Julie |

I received as a gift the parrot paddles from a collector friend. These were made in the 1960's by Supreme of England, IIRC. My little boy loves me doing it. I have one paddle showing the parrot and the other paddle showing the empty cage. I have the parrot disappear on one paddle ending up caged in the other paddle.
The use of two paddles is entertaining. Eddy Taytelbaum made some really nice sets, but are expensive if you are lucky to find them in excellent condition. |

Going to revive this old thread and say Rene Levand had a 2 stick routine with jumping dots that was really really good. Is this still available anywhere?

I still like my old jumping gems. I also have added the jumping arrow to my pocket for the last couple of years. It is more durable than the jumping gems so I tend to carry it more. I've also had good reactions from the No. 2 Pencil.

Not sure it qualifies, but if it does, Rubik's Rod wins hands down. Love that thing!
