Hello! I acquired this little gem from an estate sale this weekend ($1.50!), and can't seem to find any info on the web helping to identify it. It is a handheld wind-up smoke generator. You wind it up, place the brass piece over your finger (to look like a ring), press the button on the side and a toothed wheel (like on a lighter) spins (noisily) and generates a sizable puff of (hopefully not dangerous) smoke! It's imprinted with the words "WESTERN GERMANY" on the front, which helps date it a little.

That's a funkenring and it's meant to produce sparks. The reason yours is producing smoke is because your flint is too worn out. You should be able to replace it.

Thank you! I'll have to figure out how to replace the flint. Smoke is cool, but sparks would be awesome!
