Hi,
Could someone please translate what Juan is saying from approx 1.10 - 1.40 please? This is the section where he does the initial covert setup. I think he says something about cards being back-to-back, but I only understand a few words of Spanish. I am interested because his patter & motivation seem to be different from the usual Spades-is-the-hardest line many magicians use. Thanks https://www.magicana.com/video/juan-tamariz-twisting-aces-0 |

I don't speak Spanish, but that was an absolute joy to watch! I'd also be curious to know his patter.

He asks the girl, what would you do to put the cards back to back? Very easy, just turn tha card over and it is done. This is the easy way, but not magically at all. The magic way is like that...
[...] The passion culminates in the professional. He would rather play than eat. Winning is not his sole delight.[...] there is but one pleasure in life better than winning, that is, in making the hazard...

Then there is something I missed... Then he says "but this is NOT the magical way ... You just turn the card ... Now THIS is the magical way ..." Quite a standard presentation nowadays. Dunno if original with him or not . The word "dorso" means "back" of a human being and for the cards too. Same in Spanish and Italian. Hope this helps Mark |

A conjecture: maybe he *did* say that the AS is the hardest one, but then justified the claim. He said (I think), if we do this, nothing turns [over], if we do *this* nothing turns, if we do THIS nothing turns, but if we do *THIS*... (and then the AS finally turns). --- One third Spanish knowledge, two-thirds fantasy and conjecture.

Good to know, Mark. I used to know Spanish (and thus, I guess, Italian , much better). I love hearing Spanish spoken by native speakers.

Thanks Bob.
There are a lot of nice little details in his performance. I especially like the fact that the last phase is done by the spectator. |
