I want to do a Pavel routine where 1/2 of a length of rope is a different color. Anyone know how to dye it?
Thanks Paul |

Buy some RIT fabric dye, mix it up and put it into a jar and dip the rope into it.

Hello Paul:
Did you know that Pavel can make it for you? He's suprisingly reasonable for custom work; I recently had him make a custom rope for me, similar to what you want. It cost me about $30.00 airmailed from Europe. It's a thing of beauty! I believe his website is http://www.pavelmagic.com Ron |

I have done it but it is hard. I made my own custom knot jumping rope with yellow and red.
Tie the area where you want the dye to stop tightly with a piece of string. Dip into the dye (yes, Rit dye will work OK). Stop about 2" from the sting. The dye will wick over to the string. Let it set and then carefully rinse out the excess color and let it set and dry. Hope that helps a bit.

About 2/3 of the way down on this webpage is a knitting machine that is exactly what is use to duplicate the jumping knot rope. It actually will not be rope, but knitted yarn—just like the rope you get with the trick. I know someone who has one and made up his own.

Gee Jeff, I wonder who that was? I would invest in one of these spool knitters as it is so much easier than trying to dye a length of rope. Plus you don't have to worry about the dye bleeding or rubbing off on your other props.

Payne
What type of yarn do you use with the knitter? I think I'll give it a try. Paul |

I just use cheap acrylic yarn that's made for afghans and sweaters. The brand is Caron Sayelle and I got it at Micheals Crafts for a buck a skein.

Hmm...I thought you could use two pieces of rope and permanently attach them using snap fastners...

You surprise me Payne. From your avatars I would never have imagined you using a knitting machine. I'm impressed.
