I just came across this idea after watching Liam Montier's tutorial on the GW Hunter Shuffle (a full-deck false shuffle). His tutorial is a £4.99 digital download over at Big Blind Media here.

The usual technique: get a break after running the initial cards, drop the packet on top, and then grab the lower packet from the break.
Liam's technique: have the forefinger of your right hand curled below the cards of the right hand packet, then immediately grab the lower packet after the running the initial cards.

It's looks quite natural and deceptive. You can see him do it in this video trailer:

But it seems to me that there is an easier way to do this, without curling your forefinger in an unnatural position for the overhand shuffle.

Alternative technique: after running the initial cards, immediately grab the lower packet using the technique from the Lift Shuffle. From there you immediately carry on by running the cards again.

Does anyone else do the Hunter Shuffle this way? It seems to work quite well. But I'm sure others have thought of this idea, or perhaps there are good reasons not to use this technique that I haven't thought of.

I think it might be better to discuss this in Secret Sessions.
I will PM you...
