To most people reading this this is probably way beyond obscure, but after the passage of Gary Darwin AND shortly after the organizer of the local (I think it was - never belonged) IBM ring (which was at his Top Hat store I think), there were still a bunch of locals on Wednesdays meeting in the back room at Tommy Rocker's and contemplating either starting a new ring OR DOING SOMETHING ELSE LOCAL. I'm not local but I at least used to be a frequent visitor, and I was wondering if anyone has kept an ear on this "activity" and could perhaps figure out if this "movement" has revealed any "leaders" yet and if any plans going forward are starting to jell (that would also include any sub-professional shows or promotions, maybe in the arts scene fostered by the late Tony Hsieh) because as everyone says every time I visit, "one thing you can count on in Vegas is there has always been, and will continue to be, a HUGE amount of local interest in the art form, both as performers and as the audience".

You might inquire with Lance Burton or one of his friends...

Actually I did get up there for a few days, and VERY fortunately I met a bunch of people who appear to be carrying along the tradition. The "point of contact" for the local magic club appears to be a gentleman named Eben Rockmaker, and he can be reached at lasvegasmagicfriends@gmail.com. (The status of the local IBM ring is not so clear, I sent a message to IBM and did not hear back from them.)

By the way a perusal of the local magazine rack recently revealed the following article in the very FIRST summer double issue of a major economics magazine, at least one of the individuals mentioned here (Justin Flom) was an active member of Gary Darwin's original club, the primary focus of the article however is long-time Vegas resident Rick Lax, and the article is really about HIS success in monetizing video clips about magic that he places on Facebook, I haven't seen this article referenced anywhere else yet here on the Café and yet it is both amusing and quite informative...
