Do you think this is the only place he gets it wrong?
He is trying to direct people there for a reason or he wouldn’t have put it in the signature. Whoever he is trying to direct isn’t going there. Is this wrong?

I am not responsible for what you read into my replies. Sorry. That is a you thing I can not change. I write them how I write them and you read into them what you read into them. This is a large problem with written words I guess.

Explain exactly how that is awful.

First off if that is real, (And I am not saying either way.) the writing of the post is just terrible. You are not looking for "testimonials videos". It is as if a high school kid wrote it. The words you use and how you use them are the first impression folks have of you and your show. Use them wisely.
Second of all I have seen this done before and it is not how I would go about it. When the internet can track things down like this and you then have those "quotes" on your web page and the EXACT quote was asked for by someone in a post like this it will not help a career in the least. The worst part is you will get quotes from out of work actors, most of whom are out of work and willing to work for free for a reason. That reason is they can not look natural and convincing. This is not the best idea and probably a waste of time and a good lesson in how the internet works. I simply wouldn't do it this way.

Huh, I never thought to "fake" a testimonial, if you get
good enough actors you may end up as great as criss angel. |

Dannydoyle Eternal Order 21219 Posts |
This is just a bad idea for a multitude of reasons. The biggest reason being that if the show is actually good enough to be in the places you want to do them then none of this is necessary. Just get testimonial videos of folks on the way out and have them sign a release. Simple. But if you go this route, and it somehow works, you create another entire problem. You end up working places your show isn’t ready for and then you get the REAL testimonials and it all falls apart quite quickly.
Not every show is created equal. Again if this is real, and I take no position on it either way it isn’t the best way to do it. I know things in the internet can be manipulated and it is possible this wasn’t his idea. Maybe someone working with him thought this was a good idea and did it without him knowing. There are lots of ways it could have happened so I reserve judgement. But as an overall point without anyone’s name attached I don’t think this is a good idea at all.

I should specify that what I wrote was a joke,
if I'm not mistaken faking testimonials is illegal, as it's a sort of fraud I believe. Not suggesting anything illegal is going on here specifically, but if anyone is thinking about faking stuff check with a lawyer first. |

On Aug 16, 2022, Dannydoyle wrote: Well I guess this is a great example of you being correct. There are so many things wrong with this. From the initial thought of his first post here we could see where this was going. Like Tajrung in the other current "How Do I..." thread, I was very willing to help this guy from the very beginning of this thread. I even sent him a personal PM here on August 2nd which he hasn't even opened yet. This is the problem with guys trying to figure out entertainment business on their own is it is always be riddled with mistakes and incorrect perceptions. From the very beginning when I think of his performing moniker I immediately think of a balloon guy. Twisting balloons. Secondly, he thinks very much like an uninformed, think from my own perspective magician. I am willing to bet the farm when he did perform 20 years ago it was as a magician, not a mentalist. A mentalist has many uniquenesses much different and separate from a magician, which he is totally missing the boat on. From the "twister name" to the dead link of his website, to this ad and his obvious fake testimonial mentality, and asking how to book real live shows, he seriously needs direction. I was starting to offer this as was Danny and others and he ducked out. As I always say we must start from a position of complete honesty - first 100$% honesty with yourself - what you know and what you don't and where you are truly at, next honesty and integrity in how you operate and run your entertainment business, and three complete honesty with your prospects, clients, and audience. So far in just this brief post all three are being violated, and this is just at the surface level. I'm sure there is much more than is meeting the eye, which is what Danny was saying above. Again, he was being offered great FREE information from those very willing to help, and either got offended, or has just decided not to respond. Maybe he can't handle it. Either way learning, education, and success are a choice. Maybe he doesn't want to hear the truths. I also think this is a great example of the paths we choose in life and in business. He has some great resources available at his fingertips here from successful entertainers running successful million dollar entertainment companies, being offered personal guidance and assistance for free, and seems to be choosing not to respond, vs. Tajrung, who has taken the complete opposite path and has not only been operating from a position of complete honesty, but has been open to accepting critique and assistance from those here in a position to help, and look at difference - the pace, specific information, details, whys and why-nots, and so much more he has learned and accepted in just a matter of a bit more than a week or so. Such a huge difference, yet it something I also see on a daily basis. You have to be open to learning to learn. This encompasses many things but having the right approach and mindset comes first. This is a great reminder. Starting off as a fake is never a good sign of what's to come. I believe this is also an example of someone listening to poor advice, the wrong people, or not truly understanding the information and the process. The whole fake-it-til-you-make-it never works out well as sooner or later they start believing their own BS. This is so sad, but as a mentalist he should have saw this coming! |

Oh I knew it was a joke. Clearly it was LOL.
But it is an interesting topic in that there was a trend in the 90's when ANYONE could get stage time to fake testimonials. Not video ones so much, but to fake TV credits. Don't forget that in the 90's before there being a billion channels, and before it being easily searchable on IMBD and such it was easy to claim a TV credit. Comics did this like you can not imagine. Even clubs themselves did it on behalf of comics if you didn't pay attention to it! Then came the dawn of the internet and eventually easily searchable content and comparing claims and it all came to a screeching halt! I never knew what guys thought they got out of that in the first place but SO many did the tactic it was almost funny. Now you can find out easily if the claims are true or if someone even HAS a SAG card or what not. The faking of anything is just so pointless. I just don't know how you feel good about yourself doing it is all. I have no idea the legalities of it or not. We used an act (Who shall be nameless and nobody here would know anyhow.) in Mexico one time that this came into play. Tripadvisor was relatively new and they saw the reviews others of us were getting. Deciding duplicity was a good idea they wrote their own review! And it was very clear they did so. The account was created that day, they reviewed almost nothing but the food and entertainment. This is because when we worked there that was pretty much all we had access to! This wasn't the saddest part mind you. Later in the year they keep referring to the review as if we didn't know THEY WROTE THE THING! It was almost as if they fooled themselves into thinking it was true. It was so strange. In short don't do your own reviews. It is pathetic. It is also transparent. It is things like this that if you are not in the business you simply don't get. This is why I push back HARD against bad advice. It can cost you seriously. Simply blindly encouraging bad ideas (As one in this section ALWAYS does.) leads to bad decisions. Bad decisions cost money.

I don’t know the guy, but I do like to give people the benefit of the doth as they say, and if he were asking a group that had attended his show there would be nothing wrong with that, and the paper did say for no pay.
But what’s weird to me is, he has testimonials on his website. And he is in New York, so why would he be asking in Arizona? I wonder what year that paper/ad is from. Tom

Benefit of the doth?
I knew you would be here defending this! He is not even asking anyone to attend the show., he is asking for ACTORS to deliver lines HE wrote. It makes everyone but you suspicious of the quotes he does have. This is the problem with no experience. The ZOOM reactions are clearly bad actors with lines that have been written for them. This is clearly a very bad idea that doors not need encouragement.

Danny, I'm not defending or encouraging anybody, just saying I don't know all the details. I have not seen the full ad, have no idea where he got the people from, and know nothing about him. But hey, maybe you have seen a lot I haven't seen yet.

What does it matter what year it is from? Did it used to be the right way to do things? Heck no!
He clearly was asking actors to show up and recite lines. THIS IS THE POINT OF THE AD. People don't show up to the show and then see this ad online and respond do they Tom? Do you know how the internet works? And to be clear, for everyone but you as usual, telling people WHAT TO SAY is not cool. It is just not the best way to go about things. And to be further clear I do agree with your last statement. I have indeed seen a LOT you have not seen yet. Finally you see that. Glad to see you're adult enough to admit it finally.
