Someone at the CW loves magic! Deception, Fool Us, Masters of Illusion and now this, wow...not a huge fan of Criss Angel or these "talent" shows with judges but I'll probably check it out just out of curiosity.

It is inexpensive programming... You don't have to pay much for talent , in some case next to nothing... and production values are on the skimpy side.

No one pays for music synch rights... they just reduce their music over ours.

Criss angels magic with the stars premiered yesterday, viewership was
375.000.

The format is interesting, two "Celebrities" compete in three different classes,
stage, close up, and grand illusion.

all under the watchful eye of the greatest person who ever was Crisstopher angel!
I know he's the best because he said so numerous times throughout the episode.

I particularly liked the chair appearance, and afterward criss said he invented it,
i wonder what his definition of "invent" is.

i half expected lance to turn to him and say... "Bruh"

Did I mention lance Burton is in it? he is, it's a high point, another judge is loni love,
she was host on the talk show "the real" (google is my friend)

Eddie griffin is the host, he currently performs at the Sahara, you can
see him for the low low price of $75. (with google, I technically know everything)

At the end, the two "celebrities" performed the greatest illusion of all time,
criss angels levitation, I know it's the greatest because criss said so.

all in all it was a pretty enjoyable watch, I laffed all the way through, 4.5 out of 5.

did anyone else catch it? what did you think?

I just saw Criss Angel's Magic with the Stars. I hadn't heard of this anywhere until someone else happened to mention it on another forum. The premise is literally Dancing with the Stars, but with magic. They teach famous laymen a few tricks and then have them compete.

In the first episode, Criss actually taught them his stage levitation. Kudos to the two actors they had on for actually doing a pretty good job, but wow. Criss made sure to remind everyone it was the greatest levitation -no!- greatest illusion of all time and that you can see it every night at the Planet Hollywood Hotel. A good 25% of the show seemed to be about Criss and how awesome he is. All of the stage hands wear Mindfreak shirts. One contestant gushed about how he used to buy Angel's magic kits as a kid (this is the guy who won after Criss had to break a tie, by the way).

Even better, when looking it up after I learned that a contestant almost drowned while rehearsing a water stunt. Is it too much to ask that we don't put laymen in dangerous situations?

I will give credit, the contestants were genuinely good. Any time there was a performance, I enjoyed watching. Everything else from the back stage spots to the interactions between the judges and host were just wooden. I know it's easy to s**t on Criss, but honestly this show really feels like little more than a commercial for his Vegas show. I'll be interested to see the ratings/reviews from laymen.

Yes, but the magic was better back then... in the words of the late Charlie Miller: " Magic takes another dive into oblivion!"

The "stars" on the first episode were corbin bleu and miles brown.

Corbin bleu is the guy from "high school musical",
miles brown is the kid from "black-ish".

Episode 2 aired Saturday, it was watched by 326000 folks, with
a demo of 0.00, meaning nearly all the viewers were either
below 18, or above 49 years old.

The "stars" were R&B singer Omarion, and maksim chmerkovskiy,
a professional dancer on "dancing with the stars".

It's the second episode and we already got to see the return of the
"Dekolta chair". obviously, being Criss angels illusion, it's the
ultimate version somehow.

It's apparently called the "Amystika chair", after his incredible
new show, I know it's incredible because Criss took a minute in
the episode to inform me of such, and that I can see it at the
luxor, which was appreciated.

i like the suspenseful ending, where Criss was to assign the
last stars to deside a winner, I guess I wasn't supposed
to keep up with the count to know maksim couldn't lose.

All in all it was enjoyable, 4 out of 5.

Correction, Criss angel performs at planet Hollywood now,
not the luxor. (shows how much I was paying attention).

You know, I watch all the magic stuff on the CW including Masters of Illusion and Fool Us but I really can't even bring myself to watch this. Just your descriptions alone make me cringe! Then again I find shows of this ilk such as Dancing with the Stars, American Idol etc. to be unwatchable so it could just be the format.

As a magic lover and performer I like all magic, however, this is the worst "magic" show on television. It will not last.

I totally agree with you Ron.
Plus I am wondering why is he doing this?
He (according to him)is the greatest magician around, magician of the century because of all the (according to him) greatest one of a kind tricks He can do. But yet shows the stars how to do them and they do the tricks also. So he must not be that great if everyone can do them.
Am I wrong?

Well shawn, I don't usually speculate about secrets,
i hope I don't get kicked from the magic organisations I never joined,
but here's the probable secret...

it's a commercial, criss wants you to buy tickets to his show "mindfreak",
and his super special awesome new show "amystika" in vegas.

Episode 3 appeared Saturday, it was watched by 336.000 folks, making
a 6 percent increase.

the "stars" were lolo jones an Olympic athlete, and frankie muniz,
from malcolm in the middle, he also has the honor of being the
first "celebrity" I didn't have to google.

The categories were mentalism, close up and stage, they both performed
the same illusion, metamorphosis.

Criss claimed to have the record for the fastest metamorphosis, apparently
no one told Guinness because they still list the record as belongs to
the pendragons, but I trust Criss angel, I know he wouldn't lie to me.

It was enjoyable over all, 3.5 out of 5.

Wasn't it David Copperfield who is supposed to have purchased the rights to the Pendragon "split curtain" speed presentation of Metamorphosis?

Episode 4 aired Saturday, it's viewership was 334.000
marking a 1.5 percent increase, and a demo of 0.10.

The "stars" were Jeff timmons, from the band 98 degrees.
and "Ginuwine", who described himself on the show as
being known for "pony, differences, and in those jeans."

i don't know what that means either.

The categories were shock magic, close up, and escape.

the first trick performed by Ginuwine was particularly good,
ho had loni choose one of five fears, and it appeared in
a drawer box.

it got such a reaction, loni fell off her chair into criss.

the fact "Ginuwine" knows how a trick works that I don't
gives me a weird feeling in my tummy.

This episode had the first tie, of which criss had to break,
(because his opinion is worth 3 votes apparently).

After criss announced the winner, and it was over, a
person I was watching with stated, and I quote, "i hate this show,
i won't be watching it next week, thank GOD!"

I on the other hand was mildly entertained, the best episode
so far, I'll swing it 5 out of 5 stars.
