It is spelled Shinobi and here is the inventor performing it very well.

Also, please don't support exposers on youtube by learning it from them. If you like the action of the control, invest in Mr. Diaz by purchasing the download on Theory11 or wherever it may be available.

It costs less than a Big Mac and you'll feel better afterwards.

Or use a lift shuffle, or hindu-shuffle the selection back to the top.

I'd say losing control for this one. I personally use a clipshift for controls but it is pretty complicated to execute so doesn't hit all your conditions

A breather fifth from the top. As you have card selected underspread cull the breather. Separate the hands with the breather under the right hand half. Selection is placed on left hand portion. Drop the right hand’s portion onto the left hand’s . Mahatma shuffle at the breather and the selection goes to the top. As a bonus, you can glimpse it as you shuffle.

This made me laugh, Ray: "It costs less than a Big Mac and you'll feel better afterwards." Smile

I just ordered the download and I feel better already, even though I haven't watched it yet.

Hi.

What is the best control for you *under the following 7 conditions*:

• It must be very misleading

• Not involving a cut (I find putting a card in the middle of the deck and then cutting doesn't make sense).

• Do not require a table

• Do not look like a flourish or complicated movements (in this case the public may not understand the manipulation but they feel that something has happened)

• Do not require “missdirection”

• Do not have too bad angles (I see a lot of good manipulations that are very impractical because of the side angles

• Be relatively easy to execute

Thank you,

Regards,

Karl

Lift shuffle is my go to control. The best one for me.

I included this in my talk at The Session in 2023. Is this something you came up with, or read somewhere? I'd never seen anyone else combine the cull, breather and mahatma this way before I started teaching it, so if you have a credit or source I'd really appreciate it so I can research it back.

I came up with this combination of sleights independently. I have been a great fan of breather crimps ever since learning about them more years ago than I can remember ( I’m 78 now). I’ve come up with other controls using a breather that are easy and deceptive. This was just the first one that came to mind.

I credit Harvey Rosenthal with urging me to explore new ideas. He once told me back in the 70’s that he came up with a new sleight or idea at least once a day.

Makes sense - I assumed the basic idea would predate me. The sequence I taught at The Session has an additional component that allows you to take a shuffled deck and immediately position the breather 4th from top for culling, all without needing to look at the hands. If this is of interest to people who were not at The Session I can film a demo clip.

I do something very similar. I cull the breather, and place the cards in the right hand (breather at bottom) on top of the selection and the left hand portion of the deck. I don't immediately control the card to the top. Instead, I set the deck on the table. Later, I pick up the deck and bring the card to the top using Eddie Tullock's shuffle.

For what it's worth, I've been doing this since the late 1980s.

I posted this several months ago in regards to a question concerning a spectator wanting to shuffle the cards. But I use this version of the spread pass in many situations as the angles are 180°. I The only time where I might not use it if I'm performing for a guy who is 6 foot four..

For stand-up performances, I use a Hermann Pass.

For close-up, I may use several techniques. I could have the card replaced on the top and do a false cut. Or I could use a Pro-Control Card (Oulette) beside the card and several cuts to make it appear that no one could track the card.

If you ever hung-out with Dick Oslund, he had a term for stuff that fit convoluted conditions. LOL

Mine has been the LePaul Spread Pass just the way LePaul taught it. It is by no means invisible but it still surprises me how no one ever sees it.

Recently I re-read the Card College variant of this, which incorporates better cover and is therefore more invisible...but requires you to open the spread up a second time, a fact that makes me want to stay with the original LePaul version; the only time I have ever consciously decided to pass on the near-always superior Card College handling of a move.
