Hi. I know that both of these guys are great artists I was just wondering which of the two relied more heavily on serious knuckle-busting. I'm working through Ortiz's stuff and after awhile I find I create a barrier that diminishes my ability to have fun with it. I keep thinking there must be somewhere where the involvement of sleights is substantial but not as intense as Ortiz's. In other words, I am looking for a body of work that is sleightly (get it? slightly-sleightly)less difficult. From posters' opinion, it appears that John Bannon may be a good guy to try. His palming DVD is top notch.
Don't get me wrong, Ortiz is absolutely brilliant, but I think perhaps his heavy involvement with card cheating has poised him to find, and then incorporate, brilliantly difficult stuff. Thanks in advance. Teds

The Move Zero DVD of Bannon's comes to mind. Also his book Destination Zero which is out of stock right now but is supposed to be re-printed in the near future.

Bannon’s Dear Mr Fantasy sounds like exactly what you want. He uses lots of sleights but all that are pretty basic and you will be familiar with, none in the same ballpark as the mad Ortiz-level techniques. Unless you’re a complete beginner you can sit down with any of the effects and after a few days’ work be performing it without a second thought, they’re not hard. Plus nearly all the effects are super fun to do and get great reactions.

John Bannon is fast becoming one of my fav magicians right now. I have all his early books.. But they are pretty much sitting on a shelf. Not because I don't like him. But I just have too many books. And have tons of books on magic. But I have been watching some of his DVD's and am really loving how simple his effects are and how simple he makes them.. slightless, moveless and still comes up with great effects.

I'd definitely suggest John Bannon's material too, I'm a sucker for my comfort zone tho, the techniques and moves are much easier. Move Zero as someone mentioned is a great release. That said, if you are looking to challenge yourself and develop your skills, Ortiz has some incredible stuff.
