WOW!
That was just amazing to watch, and I saw so much of Master Juan Tamariz in his overall presentation. Just a remarkable demonstration of psychology and topflite card technique. He has learned his lessons well and the result is card magic beyond compare. An absolute treatise as to technique and presentation…the precision of controlled chaos. Berglas has got to be scratching his head on that one. WOW! I loved the realness, imediacy of it all…so very clever. Man, there’s a million different card tricks out there, and at least 100 that are just excellent in every way. This presentation is one of the very best for sure. It was like watching Scarne, Marlo, Lorayne, Malone, and I’ll even mention the boldness of Vinny Marini here, all rolled into one and then some. Tamariz must be proud of his special student, and glad to see him mention his mentor so fondly. I can’t think of a presentation by any card worker that was any better or more exciting & fun to watch. Can you? Bravo!

Fantastic performance.
Is anyone else also reminded of Lennart Green? Am I out in left field? |

It's not very nice to do it but consiering that Dani has a FB group with 5K users and he shares a lot of stuff there, I suppose this is part of Dani's spirit. NUMERICAL CONCORDANCE This is Dani's version of a Hofzinser effect. Dani said once he will always perform this effect. He has many versions, but this version is explained in Utopia and Penguin Live #1. CARD TO BOX CARD IN BOX T&R GAG All this three effects are explained in PL #1. CIB is also in Utopia. "RANDOM CARDS CHANGED TO SEVENS" I don't believe this trick is "officially" explained, in fact I feel he improvised it there (I may be wrong thought). However once you know the other tricks you will know this one as well. ACAAN "THE RITUAL" As mentioned this is the first item from the "ACAAN Project". If you want to learn this effect and all the others, I will STRONGLY recommend that you learn first the ACAAN Dani published with Dan & Dave (it's a download). It will cost you about $10 more BUT you are going to gain a much deeper understanding of the ACAAN Porject, and most of it is a development of this specific effect. Hope you find this useful. "Welcome to his world". As you can see I'm a very big fan of this type of work, as I see it as an extension of the work of Tamariz. 10 years ago I wrote a small booklet on the magic of DaOrtiz that may help you understand (or not!) more of this type of work. It's not my intention to advertise but since you asked and since it may help you I will break the social etiquette and place the link here in case you may need it: https://www.lybrary.com/the-daortiz-report-p-781547.html I have already a second version of the book with MUCH more material and re-writting and explanations. Eventually I will feel it's finished and publish it. People who have the first version will automatically receive it. Again sorry for this - hope you find value in the other stuff.

I saw Dani perform these effects (and others) at Magic Live in 2019 (and at a lecture in San Diego in early 2020). You know you are in the company of greatness when 200 magicians all rise to their feet mumbling (or just thinking) "No f'ing way!" just before Dani turns over the ACAAN card.
Prior to Friday's Fool Us episode, Dani posted a teaser about his forthcoming appearance on Fool Us on his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL81OnNJd_g Unfortunately, it seems doubtful that he'll also be able to post his complete performance (now that the show has aired). Reason?.... The CW network has new ownership. One magician I know has had several of his Fool Us appearance YouTube videos removed (apparently, at the request of The CW) for "copyright violation". I hope the management at The CW comes to their senses and allows the videos to return. Mark

Because if I look at the ritual, it seems there is a difference in the cards that are given to the spectator to shuffle who is going to select the card. If I am not mistaken, the method used in the ritual does not use a normal 52 card deck, you can not do it impromptu with a borrowed deck without adding some cards into the deck yourself secretly. But I have been told and explained by a magician that that the method that Dani used in fool us performance can be done impromptu with a regular deck of 52 cards. And after hearing him explain the method to me, I understand how it can be done. I don't want to expose anything but lets just say that there are less cards given to the spectator in the impromptu version vs the "ritual" version that I see Dani performing. |

I think it's more the method in Chapter 08.

This was a great performance of course. I'm fairly certain the ACAAN he used was Totally Hands Off as explained here:
https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/11519 The Ritual is an impromptu version of the same effect and is very similar but it is not the same. Totally Hands Off uses a prepared deck. In chapter 8 of the ACAAN Project, he explains the same effect as Totally Hands Off and how to transition in and out of it with a borrowed deck. |

I purchased Dani's Fool Us act video that Mike linked at Vanishing Inc. I've watched about 1.5 hours so far. The audio is slightly distorted through the mechanical explanation part, but it is still completely intelligible. The rest of the audio (I've listened to so far) is fine. The video quality is excellent.
I've seen Dani perform his "The Ritual" ACAAN effect in-person on a couple of occasions, at Magic Live and during a lecture in early 2020 here in San Diego. It ALWAYS totally blows away the audience, including an audience full of magicians. I've had assumptions on how it might be done but this video was still an eye opener. Although Dani's supreme ability to manage spectators (while appearing he's not) is NOT "easy" to do, the actual method is even easier than I imagined. Meaning, the mechanical part of it, the "moves", are pretty simple. As mentioned earlier in this thread, almost self-working. I've watched less than half of the video and I already feel I've received my $20 worth. It is unlikely that I will ever try to perform it myself. I made the purchase due to insatiable curiosity and because I simply felt like supporting Dani, even if only with a minor amount. Basically, a "tip" to say thank you and "great job!" I look forward to my next opportunity to see Dani perform live. I hope he is at Magic Live 2023. Mark

A lot if this is in the Utopia DVD but good luck doing it as successfully as Dani does it. He is a special magician and extremely gifted(as others have pointed out) with psychology and audience management. You can practice with cards for years but to perform these miracles you need that little something extra that can't be taught.
You can learn the techniques and you can learn the patter. You can learn the trick. You can't learn the miracle. |

One thing that is important for this style of magic is the ability to think on your feet and improvise. When you are using so much psychological manipulation things can go wrong, and you need to be prepared for that. Dani is. He can take a trick in many different directions and end well even if a spectator trips him up. I think what makes us believe we can't replicate the trick is our fear of the trick completely falling apart if the spectators don't do what we want them to do. The only way around that is to perform it, have it go wrong, and come up with ways to fix it on the fly. Which will take quite a bit of practice, and most hobbyists won't be able to (or want to) put in that kind of practice. Of course, the more you practice the better you'll be and the less it will go wrong.

I totally concur (with Magic Mike and others) that purchasing Dani's Fool Us act was WELL worth it, for the magic, the timing, the methods, thinking on his feet, etc. I see the Juan Tamariz in him...acting like the magic just happens ..."I don't know why"! This is magic as "astonishment"...and FUN. I've watched it many times over since I last posted. Lynn
