Thank you very much, again, for this wealth of information. I got interested in the Bizarre style when I read Christian Chelman's book. This was a while ago. Now I'm finding it more and more interesting. I'm trying to find PDF's of some of these if I can. Lon Milo Duquette is first on the list. I'm setting up a space in my notebook just for this list that is forming. You are very generous.

Thanks to Mindmagic and Actorcoop, I found Lon Milo Duquette. The amount of books all pertaining to things I've been interested in already is astounding. I found 3 that were out as PDF's. The Thoth Tarot, The Chicken Qabala and Son of Chicken Qabala. So I'm already reading Duquette's book on Crowleys Tarot. Thanks again.

To the Curator, I've already found some works on Japanese ghost stories. Dr. Spekter, I'm reading The Book of Enoch, and to Gaddy and Actorcoop, I'll get to those on your list as soon as I can. Thanks again to all. Adjunct Professor Webb (Gregg Webb)

"Castles", by Alan Lee is fantastic. It's not a "bizarre" or a "magick" book, but it's got a wealth of stories to inspire performances.
Millard Longman sent me a great little PDF of his tarot reading system. And you can't go wrong with Manly Hall's "Secret Teachings of All Ages" - it's a "mile-wide-inch-deep" encyclopedia of all things religion & mysteries. Tom Phoenix |

Millard Longman and Alan Lee go right on my list! The Secret Teachings I've been plugging and is what got me started on this new reading binge I'm on. Thanks for connecting, Tom. Just when a lot of people aren't reading so much anymore, the Bizarrists seem interested in this great list of books forming here.

While you’re on Lon Milo, don’t overlook his memoir “my life with the spirits.” It’s not a guide book, but his essays are the perfect glimpse into the life of a working practical sorcerer and it’s written with such love and humor. Really great stuff, and the PERFECT book to read when you need a break from the dense material but still want to stay “in it”

If you can find a copy: "The Practitioner: Journeys into Gray", by Eugene Poinc, is fantastic.
I got super lucky a few years back & found a signed copy of it in a used book store for $15. |

The Curator recommended me to look into Japanese ghost stories, and I found a lot to go on. What I looked at the most so far are the plays that were made about the ghost stories, Yokai, and dark stories, Yamishibai. There are posters from the plays that are very interesting. Anyway, it all reminded me of a book, Secrets of the Saints that Japanese magician Shigeo Takagi gave David Roth, which is very old and rare. Takagisan's day job was as the curator of the Japanese archives.
We now think the book is in the possession of Bill Kalush of the Conjuring Arts Research Center. It had to do with using human hair the way we use invisible thread to animate objects, flowers and such. |

I'm up to Section VI of The Book of Enoch. It certainly is an easier "read" than, say, Paradise Lost.

At this point I'm a little confused as to the relationship between the Book of Enoch and the numerous books of Enochian Magic such as by John Dee and then the dissertations on that by Crowley and Duquette.

I'd like to add to our list Mircea Eliade's book on Shamanism and also Joseph Campbell's.

Enochian MAGIC is a ceremonial system of spirit conjuration created by John dee and Edward Kelley, which is their own very specific system of angelic magic. The Enochian that Crowley and Duquette are almost always referring to is Dee and Kelly’s system. In fact, one of the most well known thelemic texts by Crowley is called “The Vision and The Voice” and is essentially Crowley’s diary of the Enochian calls!

Thanks again. That clears up my "Wait a second" moment I was having. Luckily I have a source for those. GW

Just wanted to remark on how great I think Lady Frida Harris's artwork for the Thoth Tarot is! Also I'm realizing the book by Crowley is often him describing what should be shown on each card and why. Anyway, I was able to find pictures on-line of the original art by Harris and after looking at those, I'm even more impressed.

I agree! Harris' artwork reminds me of the BEAUTIFUL Deco artwork all around Rockefeller center in NYC.
Harris AND Pixie Smith were certainly the unsung heroines of the tarot in the early 20th c. imo

Also just saw a picture of Frida Harris. Pixie Smith I don't know. Pamela Coleman Smith used to go to the Pratt Institute where I taught and they have some of her original art displayed. She of the Ryder-Waite deck art.
