This question follows my re-reading Mind, Myth and Magick, as you do, and it was while I looked at the preparation for Trionic, in the Cerberus section, I suddenly thought, "Why bother?" Six decks of cards, rubber cement, gaffed cases. Then again, if the result is a reputation maker all that effort would be worthwhile.
However, I'm assuming ( big assumption ) mentalists generally prefer straightforward, impromptu stuff with very little set up, and in certain locations a quick reset. So, to the question. What was the most time and effort you put into preparing/constructing/setting up an effect and, more importantly, was it worth it?

I have an effect called "A RAVENS TALE" that I use to start my "mentalism" performance at the tables when I have a strolling performance.
There are different variations but one takes some preparation where most mentalists would say: No Way! But it is my opener and it is well worth the troubles. RAVI

Most preparation? Probably stacing a deck of cards. So not a lot, luckily.
