I assume that dtrickys was referring to music control / sound control in his question, because he mentioned a "Mediastar Pro".
For music control at an in-home child's birthday party, I use an iPod Nano and a small Bluetooth Speaker (currently using a Wonderboom). I simply push start and stop on the Nano. No need for extra remotes. No need for a PA system for a typical in-home child's birthday party. But I have performed at some children's birthday parties held in rooms at recreation centres, for larger crowds, and I brought my mic and PA system for those shows. - Donald

85, 74 in Magic - 50's a DRAMA Major - TAUGHT VOICE PROJECTION, without straining. Those days, most stages didn't have Sound systems for general plays. SO my voice was my sound system and never had a problem - once, but it was a deaf group and they understood, by SEEING the Effect, and when important, using broad movements. -

If you are planning to use a PA system & microphone, or some sort of music playback system, for an in-home birthday show, be sure that you've discussed that in advance with your customer. Many parents would be uncomfortable about you setting it up, and asking to plug into their power outlet, on the fly. A typical homeowner doesn't want you coming into their home and running extension cords across the room, and using their outlet / power. Plus, they might not want the extra volume of a PA system. - Donald
