I would just like to know if anyone knows of some ideas of what I could do with my doves after I produce them. I only have 2 doves right now but I am going to get 2 more and make a little act.
The only problem is that I don't have thousands of dollars to buy a big fancy illusion. I was thinking of building a little bird stand or something to just put the birds on but I'm affraid that they'll fly away. I was also thinking about a take apart vanish but for 4 birds? I'm just not sure what to do. |

Shifty, there are some inexpensive props available for vanishing your doves. The take apart box is one of them. Training will keep your doves from flying off if you want to keep them on a perch however another idea would be to have decorated cage which could be a box with caged front just to hold them after the productions.

Shifty,
One of the cheapest pretty stage props for keeping doves on stage is to just build a box cage with a pretty see-through front and put it on a stand for the stage. For the back side, just use wood, plywood, etc. but hinge it so it will fold down. Leave the back open and put birds in from there as they are produced. Place the birds on a perch facing the audience (front) and when the last bird is produced, close the back door. (You are packed to go home! And the birds are also available to view by the audience after the show.) There are no rules about how the cage should look. It's your show! Good Luck! Bob Magic By Sander |

If you are as warped as I am you can build a box to look like a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken for those who don’t know). The Red and white box with the Colonel Sanders Logo is readily identifiable in the USA. It is a built in laugh. I took and actual KFC box and cut the white away in front to make “bars”. You can see the bird inside.
I use two birds but the audience only knows of one. It is a produce the bird, vanish the bird and produce the second bird (pretending it to be the first/only bird) as the finale to the show.

Hi Shifty...in case you missed this post in an earlier thread...try this bit I came up with in the '50's with any of your birds...rather than just let them perch after production...
-------------------- "So once you produced your dove now what? Or say you are at a Bird Show or Pet Shop and there are Doves for sale...Using the natural instincts of the bird make for a brief and funny routine. First of course you do the Dove Hypno that we all know...but now take it a bit further. If you cradle any dove in the palm of your hand (upright, breast down) you will notice that if you move your hand slightly the Dove will adjust his TAIL feathers to compensate for the balance shift, either up or down. Take the Dove in your left hand and cradle it and have your hand so that the feathers of the tail are aimed down. With the SLIGHTEST imperceptible move of your left hand (it can't be seen if done right) slowly cause the feathers of the tail to rise up...your RIGHT hand is making hypno motions with the fingers to 'RISE', then down, then up, etc. etc. I usually end that with a little fart sound and make the tail go UP fast. The kids crack up of course. Then to end the routine have the dove wave goodbye or salute the folks you are demonstrating to. Again cradle the dove and if you push GENTLY on the shoulder of right wing, the left wing will rise in a salute. (or if it's a Republican bird push the left wing ) You have no idea how this goes over at a pet shop or show. The folks think it is a trained bird!" ------------------------------ Also, for out door shows etc. cutting a couple of the flight feathers will keep your birds from flying away. This is harmeless IF you do it properly. Do not snip to close to the base...about half way down is ok...better to go to any bird dealer and have them do it if your not sure how. They will still have the 'gumption' to attempt to fly at first and will try to leave the perch...but very soon they will calm down and get with the program. ANY Dove (even wild ones) can seem trained though with the above simple routine. Keep the word 'gentle' in mind when handeling them, even though desended from Dinosaurs they are delicate in structure. Doug

Can someone help me with this dove vanish on hanklee website. I think its called the dove cube vanish, you place two doves in a cage and place the cage into a box barely larger than the cage you spin it around and when you open it the doves are gone. Does this work similiar to the expensive one performers use to make a large number of doves dissapear onstage with., you know the method where they cover them with a sheet cary the sheet and throw it to show no cage or doves.
-Thanks |
