If you play cards you know that right now this is the most popular type of poker being played today. I like to perform some gambling demonstrations for my more adult audiences. Does anyone know an effect that uses the Texas Hold Em' as the game being played in the effect?
Thanks

I'm also looking for the same information...thanks in advance for any help from anybody!!
maybe you can use a seven card stud demonstration routine and modify it a little for use w/ texas hold'em? or maybe you can deal youself a couple of good hands and then show your spectators the "vegas cheat routine" from ellusionist...thats what I do since I have not come across any real texas hold'em routines |

A very quick demo would to ask the spectator how many hands of Texas Hold Em' are to be dealt (depending on how you stack cards, I try to influence a stack of 3-4-5 hands, otherwise the 3rd Ace tends to be a bit tricky), then ask who should get the best hand. Then use an overhand stacking shuffle to stack 2 aces to the desired position and stack the 3rd Ace so that it appears as one of the five community cards.

Theres a lot out there, but its only being given to a select few... the reason is because its still being played a lot in casino's... a lot of the formulas and moves are mostly for the dealer and theres also some double duke formulas that I have seen... although not impossible, you could use some mucking moves if you are dealing with a really stupid dealer...But if you want a simple formula like the one being asked above, just control 2 aces to the top and one to the bottom.... add the # of players -1 in between the 2 aces on top, then add whatever positon you want the aces 2 land -1 to the top of the stock.. that gives the AA's to any position you want... as for the 3rd ace on the bottom being controlled to the flop, Ill leave that up to you to figure out or for the experts on this forum to decide if they would like to reveal their methods...I would also suggest that you just do not demonstrate hold'em, because there wouldnt be much to show and if there was, it would be boooooooring...

I would think some riffle stacking to 5 or 6 hands, false shuffle(either riffle or overhand), false cuts and bottom dealing is enough for any demostration. On the above it is assume that you are the dealer.
Hand mucking might work if you have a partner but it gets very tricky when you are working alone. You will have to be extremly good for it to work or look natural. Ethan500 |

Aaron Shields has a trick called "Hold-Up" in his new notes "Deviant Practices". He states that his trick follows more of a gambling theme and less of a magical theme. I'm not sure if this is what you wanted.

I still use the standard poker deal that is built in the Aronson stack my self to finish my routine !

To clarify Henok's post:
There's only three mention of Texas Hold 'Em routines in print that I'm aware of: In Modus Operandi by Jack Carpenter, Jack mentions the possibility of doing a Texas Hold 'Em themed routine, but does not provide one. Inspired by this idea Ashford Kneitel created a routine which he piblished in his Natural Born Card$hark notes. His routine, in my opinion, had a stronger magic basis than gambling basis. In my booklet Deviant Practices, I have a routine that focuses on the gambling aspect, rather than the magic aspect. |

I am not a magician but hear is an idea for a trick:
Get a royal flush to the bottom of the pack. Tell all the company they will all be dealt a royal flush. deal them all two cards face down and let them peek their cards. Burn a card. Deal three bottoms "The Flop". Burn another. Deal a bottom "The turn". Burn and deal the the river giving all a royal flush.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Aaron's method is a very workable one, and it does use a form of poker that a lot more people are playing nowadays. If you are looking for a Texas Hold 'em routine, that should be right up your alley.

There was a similar thread over on Genii. I posted:
posted January 19, 2004 06:01 AM It would be interesting. Dealer - Magician or spectator? Spectator - deck would have to be pre-arranged. Magician - pre-arranged or stack using riffle. Since Texas hold'em requires: 1. 2 cards dealt to each person to open. 2. round of betting. 3. burn top card and then deal 3 face up for the 'flop'. 4. round of betting. 5. burn top card and deal the 4th 'turn' card. 6. round of betting. 7. burn top card and deal the 5th 'river' card. If you involve the betting cycle the trick would be long. Any trick would have to require spectators who knew the basics of poker hands. *************************************** posted January 25, 2004 09:40 AM Doug Conn is on track with his suggestion: (allowing you to switch the hole cards before the flop/river/etc. is dealt.) Do a demo offering how the dealer and another player could team to cheat the rest. 1. 4 player game with Magician as dealer 2. Accomplice is at position 2 3. Stack will be from top down: KH AD QC 10S KS AC QD 10H XX QS AH 10C XX KC XX AS remainder of deck - XX = indifferent cards (low value) 4. Bring out pre-stack deck and do false shuffles. You will have to ignore the table mix used in a real hold'em game. 5. Deal 2 hole cards to 4 positions and then "patter" about betting. 6. Burn top XX card and deal flop = QS AH 10C. 7. "patter" about betting. 8. Burn top XX card and deal turn = KC. 9. "patter" about betting. 10. Burn top XX card and deal river/Fifth Street = AS. |
