I think Nocturnal Creatures is a real classic - even here in Austria there are many of us talking about it and talking about Paul Gordon. Everybody will be talking about PAul GORDON long after so-called "card stares" like Ricky Jay, Ortiz and Doug Edwards are flicketyflack in the cemetery. Because Nocturnal Creatures is hard to find here in AUstria I have been working off photocopy like most of the others at the club and every trick is worth it. Get it while you can! YEs. Because the way Paul Gordon is being treated not just here but by everybody in the world of magic I would be very surprised if he carries on doing magic. People harm themselves sometimes too and then who would cry?

Jacob - hope that you are keeping well and I fully endorse what you say above.
Not fair on Paul tho to photocopy his book. He has Nocturnal Creations in paperback for only £9 and I'm sure he'd send it overseas if you contacted him via email.

I can't wait for my books - I'll report back on this thread. That's if it hasn't been sent to the recycle bin by the moderators. Can we try and keep this one going and if people are going to keep bashing PG - then do it in a constructive way eh?

Yes Barry I understand about the not fair. But Gunter has translated Noctunral Creatures into German (OK mainly just the technical details not with the original style) so it is better for us and that explains how he now he is having from people in Switzerland and Germany too ordering copies - not the same as the English version!!!

Jacob, it may just help your cause a bit if you contacted Paul and politely asked him if it was okay to do what you are doing. You may be surprised at his answer.

Paul Gordon is the modern day Robert Houdin. He gets the thumbs up from me.
Mind the magic?

No he's much more creative then Robert Houdin!.There is no truth what so ever that
Paul Gordons books are variations of variations of variations of Harry Loryane tricks.

Hmmmmmm. Methinks this is a bit fishy.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

As I said before, without variations we'd all be performing Hofzinser still.
Oh and of course, Harry Lorayne never adapted effects did he. In his words it was just 'two great minds thinking alike'. Oh and by the way, Lorayne endorses Paul's effects, books and videos and has included his routines within Apocalypse and within his DVD series.

To Canvey Island and the other one: I am not doing anything except appreciationg the lovely magics of Paul Gordon. Gunter, yes, is selling the German versions of his books but only in basic typingscripts, not big "flashy" books. And, as Canvey Barry said he is making simplification improvements sometimes so I don't think it is necessary what you are saying about him to contact Mrs Gordon. Gunter is just being like Harry Lorayne was if he would be Japanese

Variation is fine. However, you must genuinely add something to the equation so that your variation stands alongside the original, as a separate trick.

I agree with Josh. "Modern day Robert Houdin?" This whole thing does seem rather fishy. Is the point to get people talking about PG's books and DVDs? I'm almost ready to buy Nocturnal Creations myself just out of curiousity.

Yes, you should buy it. I haven't bought it myself but it sounds like a snip!

Well to be fair that is not quite what I meant. If you get the book it's fine by me (as if it mattered) I have no opinion about Gordon, never saw him.
What I meant is it's kind of fishy the direction this thread is going. At first I thought it was just trolling to get responses, now it feels like a big back rub session. I don't understand what some of these posters are thinking in their comments, Brilliant, Lorayne and Houdin, have been used in some odd ways here. I see something more than coincidence. Hence: "Fishy"

I have several Paul Gordons books, I like his work, and I have met him on several occasions, and he is a very personable guy. The problem is not with Paul Gordon but with the couple of people, (I think by now we pretty much know who they are), who cannot seem to accept that not every person on this forum loves Paul Gordons stuff.
But time after time they post the same type of topic about Paul, seemingly in an attempt to rile the masses. Give it a rest guys and come up with something moe inventive. |
