A recent podcast of "Discourse in Magic" had Todd Robbins as a guest. He talks a lot! And tells the story on how Speakeasy Magick was created (apparently due to Danny Doyle thinking a request for business cards meant playing cards) and goes onto giving insight on the operations of Speakeasy Magick.
Found it quite fascinating and highly recommend. Here's link to podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/di......09110296 Here's like to Speakeasy Magick: https://mckittrickhotel.com/the-club-car/magick/#/?qty=1

Ok wow. I never thought a simple joke would generate so many PM’S. I’ll answer the question here.
Yes indeed that was me. I have known Todd for some time. He is truly one of the more gifted minds in our art and one of the nicest and most generous all around people I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. We went to the place to talk about a different project Todd was working on with the owners. I was doing other things in town and we were looking for a venue for an entirely different show. I was staying in a hotel near Todd on like the 35th floor and didn’t want to be late so I went to the lobby and was working on a card thing I remembered from wherever ago I originated. (As a side note turns out Jim Ryan stole the idea from me and had the audacity to put it in print like 20 years prior to my birth. Big jerk.) The reason this little bit of trivia is important is because I never carry cards with me anywhere. I have trouble remembering to bring them to the show. I do not walk around with them and try to steer the conversation to magic or any of that. Matter of fact I don’t even have business cards! So flash forward to this meeting and almost right off the bat they seemed not to want to go down a magic road. Certainly not a conventional road as the venue prides itself on creativity. So I stop listening. Minutes later they ask about my background and Todd gives them the short version of a very long story. This was when the strange convergence of events happened. One of them asked if I had a card. Me coming out of not paying attention, heard “cards “, which for the first time ever I actually had! So I do about 10 minutes of Schulien card magic and they say “this is exactly the type of thing we are wanting to do here”. After 20 minutes of figuring out how to make it original and doable for 140 people per night “Speakeasy Macick” Was born. The concept is incredible. You’re sitting with 10 people to a table and a world class close up magician sits down with you for 12 minutes. Then he finishes and a little bit later another sits down. A total of 5 different, amazing close up workers plus 2 elegant old school stage acts. All with live piano music in sort of a 1930’s theme. It is glorious. The owners are the best group I’ve ever worked with. They get it. Heck they pay well and on time every time! I can’t overstate how much that rocks. In an Era where close to magic is being relegated to 3 tricks before the salad shows up, this is close up magic being treated the way it should be. And the combination of Todd’s dedication and creativity with the owners dedication with the guys who were first there is why this show is going on 5 years I think. Without them doing it at first it would have died as a simple idea. I couldn’t move immediately to do the show as I had contracts out there. By the time I showed up I it was all we talked about and much more. If you get anywhere close to New York come see us. I promise you won’t regret It. We are definitely not a cheap show to attend but if you like magic it is worth the money.
