I was watching THEM on TV and one of their tricks was causing a poker hand to transform into a royal flush. Does anyone know where I can get a book or vidoe thatt describes that? Also, I'd like to know certain things about it. Is it very difficult? Does it get a good reaction? Are the cards inspectable before and after? Is there anything I should know about it? Thanks!

Cards are all gimmicked and can not be inspected before or after the trick but its an extremely visual trick.
I forget the name of the effect but I believe its called "Zapped", not totally sure though. Steve |

I wouldn't waste my time. I think Steve is right. I think it is called ZAPPED or something like that.
It's not very difficult. Gets a startled reaction, but lacking a routine the natural tendancy of your audience is to grab for the cards (or at least suspect them). The cards can be shown, but they cannot be inspected, which only adds fuel to the fire. There are better and stronger routines available. When I saw the show, I thought, "Nice throw away item".

It's called Visible Poker Change from Neil Lester at Cards By Martin (at least that's what he calls it )
BTW it does look pretty freaky but like they said above, can you work it into a routine. |

Can you have a spectator deal you a poker hand and do that right away?

Hi Chris,
There is a fantastic video called: "Expert Card Magic" by Sal Piacente. It has two volumes. (two dvd's) One of the effects, "The Vernon Poker Deal" is awesome! and it's not hard to do. In fact none of the effects are hard to do and will make you look like a card sharp!! The dvd's are so good, I would run to buy them. Most dealers carry them. Gerard |

I have the Paul Diamond version of Zapped!, and no, the audience can't handle or even look very closely at the cards. They are gimmicked with dental dam. This is what I call a Magic Drawer Item. Bought it in my youth to "see how it was done". Found out, realized it was impractical for real life performances and threw it in the drawer.
Whether you purchase stuff like this depends on how much money you have to waste, and how big a chest of drawers you have, I guess. Once you have bought all the basic utility items that every magician should have, I would advise against wasting money on *tricks*. Buy books and video/DVDs. Only magicians care about the latest useless plastic/elastic mirrored thing-a-ma-jig. Learn to entertain laymen with the basic stuff. Or get a job demonstrating the crap at a magic store, if playing with toys is what you enjoy most. Randwill |
