I guess this is the first UnbiasedReview that is totally biased I don't agree with him for the reasons other stated before BUT it is kinda understandable that he can't go against his inner logic or against something that is his daily business and therefore feels wrong.
I still like his video as probably only a handful of people here had this knowledge about the human hearbeat. I didn't. We always encounter a situation in which we have this one special spectator that "destroys" our trick with knowledge we didn't expect and make us look bad. With his review I am now better prepared and have an out in case I will ever encounter this one spectator when performing heartbeat. |

Unbiased's opinion about not performing this for "medical professionals" is cute. Maybe I shouldn't do coin/fork bending with engineers anymore either. I mean, they KNOW metal can't bend under those conditions, so they must not have had an amazing experience. And everyone knows minds can't be read, so I'll scrap that altogether. But that's just my opinion of course, and he's welcome to think it's ridiculous in return. I remember when I was green, and thought I needed to hope for certain audience types as opposed to others. A few years back I was hired for a psychiatric convention of 200. I was apprehensive being I'm a mentalist and hypnotist. But...turns out if you actually know your field, it's an easier group than most. Due to my work history, I often perform for medical groups. And I have NEVER had them prove to be smarter than the average bear. The opposite truth be told. Give me a room of Harvard alumni, over a room full of mechanics any day, if my only goal is to not be caught out. But, I don't worry about that all to much these days since I perform mystery entertainment, as opposed to presenting puzzles as a challenge. This concept of changing an effect because the ...magic... doesn't match reality is comical. Maybe perform only for people with absolutely no knowledge of anything you present just to be safe.
But, whatever works at the end of the day. All of our mileage varies and all that good stuff. But, if anything good comes out of that review, it's buy The Jinx regardless, you won't regret it. But I plan on picking this up at some point based on biased review.

100% - we should all look into old sources if these things inspire/excite us. I got a load of old Marlo stuff & a Peter Duffie book on Lybrary to research ATOCTP. Had a blast. I was definitely responsive to Alex Smith's request on credit & happy to credit. At no point did Juan or Ellusionist pass this off as 100% original. Credits have always been on the project - and if more are shared, we are happy to edit them in. |

But judging the review unbiased made, it’s not a good idea. I’m all honesty, I prefer to perform for fields of specific crafts. I have fooled the pants off of card dealers every time. Sure they know how to deal cards for specific card games. And they may even know what to look for when it comes to cheating. But they aren’t looking for gaff cards or double lifts or even false shuffles. Believe me, good card dealers have a chip on their shoulder so they think since they’re profession is dealing with the very thing all magicians have ( at least most ) cards, they have the advantage. This couldn’t be any further from the truth. Now that I think about it, about 10 years ago I was doing a 4th of July stage show. I pulled two people up and performed Control ( which is another pulse effect ). After I was done got a round of applause and then discovered that the women I brought up was a nurse. And she didn’t know I wasn’t actually controlling my pulse. To each their own I guess. What works for some may not work for others |

I mentioned it above, but I personally think he has somewhat of a point because I believe this effect is powerful not because it’s impossible, but because it feels like someone just showed you something you never considered to be possible and it reminds you that super cool things still exist. This effect is not “impossible”, it feels real. But medical professionals know it’s impossible for a fact and so to them, it would hit significantly less hard and just be a neat little trick.

I disagree with the premise and conclusion. But, to each their own and all that good stuff Regardless, I think the take away is too dig into the older books. Annemann is the gift that keeps on giving. It never ceases to amaze me how much gold is in his material.

I can`t belive that we are discussing heartbeat vs medical professionals. We create magic. Go out and perform magic (heartbeat) and amaze people with a really great effect regardless if they are an heart surgeon or a mechanic. I have always liked watching UnbiasedReview, but here he has misunderstood the hole concept with the effect and also what magic is.
I have performed this for several medical personell and they where all amazed. I guess he has to work on his presentations if he can`t do magic for certain groups. And I just want to ad the definition of magic: the art of producing illusions as entertainment by the use of sleight of hand, deceptive devices, etc. |

How’s everyone today? What’s everyone’s success level with the ‘move’ here? I just can’t gauge it as I’ve yet to be able practice on another person. Is it ‘knacky’ or as simple as it appears on the video tutorial?
It's all in the reflexes.

My hands are sweaty so I struggle at it even with the powder. It just takes a while to get it going tbh. Also it seems to be 'thumping' when I try it on my other hand, but when on someone, it isn't as pronounced. With that being said, I've had performances where the spectator was shell shocked, and even had some wild reactions I've never seen in magic (A lady I performed for, teared up. I wasn't prepared for such a reaction). So yeah, there's definitely a learning curve here, but if you keep at it, you'll eventually get the hang of it.
