Okay. Let's say, I came up with this trick and I would like to market it (say, sell the idea to PenguinMagic). How should I start? Where do I begin? In particular:
1. How do I protect my trick? 2. How should I do my research? (To check if it's re-invented and so on..) 3. How should I present it to any investors? Any tips would be highly appreciated. Thanks! |

1) Unfortunately, you probably can not protect the trick itself. However, you can protect the NAME of the trick by copywriting. The other option is, instead of letting it seep onto the market and be stolen, give it a big launch so every sees your effect as original.
2) Perform the trick to as many magicians as possible and ask if they have seen it. 3) Depending on WHO the investors are, don't just say. "Here is a cool trick." They will want to know about the target markets, the returns on their investment etc. That said, making magic tricks is not a way to make money, it is more a way to share your thoughts with the magical community. |

There are other threads in this section (tricky business) that discuss this topic, if you wish to read what others have shared before. I would encourage you to do a little exploring.
