I produce a string of silks from a Square circle. Any opinions on folding vs. winding? How about rolling them up around your hand and when producing pulling from the center?

I am looking for recommendations on how to best load the chain. I have a “real” flag tied onto the end.

Hi, I have always folded mine. I think I will try rolling it up around my hand and pull from the center. If it works well it will save me time. Thanks for the idea.

Bill,

Let me know how it goes. They may not come out as "wrinkle free".

"Z" fold is fairly quick and may help with the wrinkle problems.

A real advantage rolling the silk production into cylinder rather than a ball is that if you do pull from the center, it doesn't "talk" as badly as a rolling ball of silks will. Often the outside of a cylinder doesn't even move.

A cylinder is not as easy to steal as a ball. It works better as a boxed load.

Thanks Bob,
As I said, this is for a square/circle, so that should work fine.

Any one with ideas as to what to wind around. I saw a site that showed using to pencils and a rubberband.

Bruce,

The center needs to be a little loose. Try using two wands as the core. Then you can pull them out one at a time without "wrecking the train" to leave you a handle (a tab) and enough slack to pull without moving (lifting) the whole load. (Yes, that means that the cylinder will be somewhat flattened.) The taller the cylinder, the more slack you will need.

Good Luck!

Bob,
Thankyou very much!
I was having a BIG problem getting the "winder" out of the middle. The more I pulled, the tighter it got. I had to work it out slowly. It was one pull forward, half a push back.

Sometimes something simple & obvious is staring you right in the face and is impossable to see!

I guess this is what is meant by wisdom & experiance.

Regards,
Bruce
