This isn't a new trick or book, but a service like gig salad, bark etc created by Rory Adams (consultant, created of One Ahead newsletter) to allow magicians to stand out and get more work.
It's called Book a Magician which you can check out at www.bookamagician.com I did a write up looking at it here as well for those interested in finding out a big more. https://open.substack.com/pub/davidung/p......dium=web Rory is giving 20% off your first year with code DAVID20 for a limited time. What services do you use if any? |

Acid test is the organic position of this site in a year.
Never join a stable of magicians all claiming to be world beaters. Better to improve your own organic position than rely and trust these guys. Punters love to book magicians they have seen or word of mouth. Never let your publicity be better than your act. As you were. BD |

Yeah I get it for sure, no one creates a service for it to die after a short while. This is a long long long term project so I'm exited to seeing where it lands in a year.
If you're doing well without these services then that's even better and very awesome for you! |

I think it is odd that magicians CONSTANTLY come here an complain about price shoppers. THEN they go and join these types of sites that are nothing but a way to make it EASIER for them to price shop. Ugh.
These sites in no way allow one to stand out in any way. It is a cattle call.

Unfortunate that it's not percentage based on booked shows. I can't justify the outlay until I hear some more feedback. But, I wish the site all the luck, and maybe down the road I'll get on it. Gigmasters is pretty good for the price imo, and Gigsalad has a free service that is surprisingly good as well.

$299 is a lot for a new, unproven site.

Isn't this and similar gig "services" a race to the bottom? Just asking--if they work for you that's great. As a consumer, I don't feel comfortable with these kinds of operations at all; and I'm sure that as a performer, I would hate it.

I do like gig services but now that I have been picked up by an event planner I have found this to be the best and easiest. She texts me the details of the event and asks if I can do it. If I can, she immediately sends over a contract, I accept, everything is complete. The whole process is just so much easier. My point- try to hook up with an event planner and enjoy so much less stress of getting gigs not to mention so much less paperwork to keep track of. All the info is stored on her website for me to access anytime.

Please don't waste your money on this Ed, it doesn't seem to be worth it.
First, the website is terrible. it claims to filter by location, but as far as I can tell it's just a big list. The strength of these websites is their ranking power in search. But even typing out the full "book a magician" in Google didn't bring it up first. It brought up a few sponsored links, followed by Gigsalad, then The Bash, then my website funny enough, then Wikipedia, finally this website. The one immediately after this seemed to be a similar website called "hire a magician". This website is quite a bit different than Gigsalad, this is simply a website directory by the looks of it. I hit a random magician and it took me off site. I would guess a lot of folks thought $299 is a a lot, the price is down to $199 when I looked. Also, even the FAQ at the bottom had issues. For example, one was will they bring their own equipment, and after it says something about props, it says just hand them a mic and your all good. How many of the folks listed on that website doesn't use their own sound equipment? Also, who uses a handheld mic? I have to wonder about the person writing that FAQ, it would be fine if it was something like Gigsalad, but you would think the website with magician in the name would know a lot about it. |

Ed that attitude of not wasting money at all is a great start. You are way ahead when you do have an act ready.
