Hi everyone. I use the SUC I case as a peek case to glimpse what has been written on the back of a business card. I have been peeking as the wallet goes away into my left shirt or breast pocket of my jacket. I have yet to be caught but it seems as though there is much heat on me at that time. Any other suggestions on how to obtain the peek under a natural action that would arouse little suspicion? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks. --Scott

Sounds to me like the ideal time to glimpse. Try doing something with your free hand, like getting your pen back...something to take both your eyes off the heat...then you have to look back to find the pocket.

Well, if you really must use props the rule of thumb has always been, make them unimportant. You must gain your glimpse without it looking as if you are looking at the device.

I use a Cassidy idea (Pocket Medium) in which a similar action is done and the read comes not, when you place it into your pocket, but off the beat... when you place the pen back into the pocket (and need to look down so as to get the clip on right.)

I loathe all these devices simply because they take away from the cleanliness quality Mentalism demands. In short, I'm of the old school that stresses cleanliness of method and as much freedom as possible. That said, I'll remcommend you exchange the wallet and learn how to do more effective billet handling... but that's just my old fashioned way of looking at things...

Best of luck!

I agree with Osiris that billet work is more "where it's at", on the other hand, these business card peek devices are the perfect thing to carry the cards you use for billets. It gives you more options. You might use the peek device infrequently, but you're going to carry business cards anyway...why not carry them in something magically useful?

Good Point Reese...

I carry my business cards in a UPC.

I also agree with Reese's post. THere is no need to limit yourself with just using SUC or similar devices. By carrying business cards inside the SUC or other peek cases, you have different options. Doc Hilford's tape on billet work, "faster than a speedy billet," has some good pointers on billet switches and billet reading.

Why do these threads also twist into something off topic to what was asked? Scott simply asked for a better misdirection for a SUC peek, not that he should be doing billets instead !

Scott, I'll actually answer your question. I've used SUC for 2 years now and had the same dilemma; that basically, even though I was never caught, I always felt awkward placing it into my shirt pocket, even when use Docc Hilfords sneaky glimpse. I recently found a cunning way round it and it works beautifully.

PM me for details.

I keep a (bright purple) elastic band around my SUC. In taking back the wallet and replacing the elastic band (so that it cannot be opened) which I have kept across my finger while the spec completed his drawing, I make the peek theen slip it into my pocket. I also use the same method with my Thought transmitter. Hey – it works for me!

That is a nice use of a purple rubberband, Drew...have you tried other colors to see if they are as effective? Smile

That works just fine, I'm sure.

I've heard purple is the color associated with the third eye. must be why it works

I've never used the SUC for a PEEK. I've only used it for the invisible palm pilot routine on Banachek's DVD series

I use an evil dan wallet, I talk about where I would like them to project there word ie onto a large imaginary screen.

I draw an outline of the screen with my fingers and the wallet goes along for the ride.

A very easy and long as you like peek situation. Works for me!

It's funny that this discussion began with a question regarding how to best peek regarding Mark Striving's SUC. The best advice on this topic I've ever read comes from Mark, unfortunately not in his SUC directions or books. In his book on the effective use of cribs, "Silent Partner," Mark writes on page 7, "The problem can be summed up in one word - eyes." As I once wrote him, I think he should include the section that begins with this statement and several sections that follow in his SUC manuals. Virtually every thing Mark says about "justifying one's gaze" when getting a glimpse at a crib, applies as much or more to taking a peek. There are several pages of great information simply on this and I believe the book as a whole may be the only treatise totally devoted to using cribs. So a double bonus if you don't own it and go buy it.

By the way, Mesaboogie mentions Docc's sneaky glimpse which it seems that Scott doesn't know. Mesaboogie, while you may not have been comfortable with this, many others, including myself, have used this method or variations with great success for years. Scott, if you don't know the method, I recommend you find out what Mesaboogie is referencing, try it yourself and see if how well it works for you. It is a simple gem and could be just what you are looking for.

And, last but not least, just in my humble opinion, the world of pure mentalism is big enough for both wallets and billets.
