Can anyone tell me why David Copperfield’s History of Magic book, which is a beautiful book by the way,is selling for practically nothing on-line?

Not sure, but I believe it was also aimed at the general public? If so, that would mean a large printing.

Can't give an answer, but my mom bought me a copy from A dollar store!

Perhaps just not well received by the magic community and the general public. I bought three copies with the 'extra chapter' in the US cos I thought they'd be sort after. I then carried them to UK and advertised them with the intention of making (ahem!) a small profit - I couldn't give them away.
Eventually I did just that and gave them to a local society but I don't think they've been read much - if at all.

It was a mass produced book targeted to a wide audience that was available at every bookstore, Costco, Target and WalMart. Like most mass-market books, it did not hold its value once it came of the best seller list. There are thousands and thousands of those books floating around in used bookstores, etc and the supply WAY outstrips demand. Add to that the fact that most public library systems of any size have one on the shelves, and the value is near zero.
