Without actual cups, laymen might not know what they're looking at. The cup pictures wouldn't look like a cup to laymen. It just looks like a trick you'd perform only if you're hanging out with fellow magicians. Otherwise, look into Karl Norman's routine using playing cards and coins - a similar plot to cups and balls. I saw his student, Ray Mertz, perform it during a lecture many years ago.
