Hey guys! For the past month and a half, I've been working on a new project. It is a new concept podcast which is absolutely free. In the podcast, we maroon magicians on a Desert Island and tell them they are only allowed to take 8 tricks, 1 book and 1 non magic item that they use for magic. The Desert Island part doesn't really play a role, it's just for the concept. Essentially, it's their top 8 tricks, top book and most needed non magic item they use for their business.

It is a weekly podcast produced by Alakazam Magic and we've got some incredible names! The first 4 guests are Spooky Nyman, Dave Forrest, Andy Smith and Richard Jones! We have already ready recorded over 30 episodes before launch to ensure we are way ahead of the game and to make sure they keep on coming!

It's been a privilege talking to these performers and checking out their top lists, we've even been keeping a spread sheet of the top tricks chosen and at Christmas, we're going to do a Christmas Special where we discuss the current top 8 at that point of recording!

It is available worldwide on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts.

We've set up a listen page for you too which each performs tricks linked down below incase you want to explore more!

The first 2 episodes are available to check out now! So much time has gone into this and we really love listening to them back so on behalf of Alakazam, we hope you enjoy Desert Island Tricks!

I've really enjoyed it. I don't actually have a very good knowledge of dealer items. As my main focus has been mentalism and bizarre it's largely been making my own effects from methods learnt in books. I also had a break from magic after my daughter was born, so missed many releases. So I've found it oddly fascinating hearing magicians excited about these items, many of which I don't know. Some really fun discussions. Loved Spooky Nyman's passion for all those Tenyo tricks that were items you start out with. Lots of good discussion on the professional side of how different effects play. Looks like you've still got good people lined up Jamie.

Definitely a fun series. I've listened to all of them and been introduced to some nice effects!

My biggest takeaway from this podcast has been to create my own list of desert island tricks.
I think it’s well worth doing as an exercise! I even wrote outs notes on why each effect made my list just to help me to truly understand why I picked it. Which also helps me realise why these are effects I’d like to share with people.

As someone who wants to perform more often, having a mental list of the effects that are most important to me means that I always know what to go to! One thing I always struggle with is that when someone asks to see something, my mind goes blank and I cannot remember anything to perform. This helps with that.
It’s also been fun discussing my list with friends and hearing their lists. Like our very own podcast ????

I must admit, I struggled to get down from ten to eight. And decided that ten was ok, if the podcast runs out of decent guests and for some reason they seek me out, I don’t know how I’ll ever choose ????

In any case, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the podcast. And looking forward to future episodes!

The Mind Buster by Labco.

If anyone is interested in sending in their Desert Island Trick list we would love to read it out on the show.

I don’t think so. Unless he listed that twice!

This is his list:

Marcs Desert Island Tricks:

1) Thumb Tip
2) Stealth Assassin Wallet by Peter Nardi
3) The Code by Andy Nyman
4) Mind Buster by Labco
5) Morgan Dollar and Shell
6) Spoon Bend
7) ITR
8) MB

I’m curious what number 8 was and couldn’t figure it out from the episode.

My emoji’s apparently didn’t work and were replaced by question marks . You’ll just have to imagine what my opinion was!

I've been listening to this podcast in the car; this is the episode I started with .. The idea of using the TT with the rose petals was brilliant.. Halfway through it -- I'm up to effect #4..

Keep up the good work and I can't wait to listen to other episodes.

mG

PS: I'm curious about the voodoo routine as well.
