I just have a question for Dan Watkins and 10cardsdown.
You say that you WERE totally baffled by Bob. Now the years have past and I think you learn a lot of new things. So are you still puzzled of what he did or know you understand it. Just a little doubt.

I now know what he did, though I did not figure it out on my own, I was eventually told.

Yes, I eventually understood some of the stuff. But it was deeper than that. It wasn't necessarily just the methodology. It was the psychology, timing, presentation coupled with the methodology. I'm sure if he were to show me something now, he'd destroy me once again . . . and I'd look forward to it again!

... I know what you mean about the four coins going into the hand and disappearing. I got fried by that one myself.
But... now I'm craving to see the little red bag. Bob, any plans of coming back to Paris any time soon ? Regards Daniel |

I recently had the pleasure of spending a little time around Bob. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't know as much about him at first. I found him to be one very nice, generous and knowledgable guy. He instructed some of us in some of the subleties of the palm-to-palm false coin count.

Hi all...Seems like I get here after long moments of time have elapsed....I've been underground coach/consulting for Alain Nu's Discovery (TLC) Channel's shows. He's got 4 one-hour specials coming out, probably in late April. We've shot in Miami, DC, San Antonio; supposedly the warmer places; coming up: Vegas, New Orleans and San Francisco...in museums, restaurants, the streets, unique shopping centers, the Exorcist staircase, gravesites....fun stuff in fun places....other consultants include Bob Sheets, John Riggs, Sam Haine, Docc Hilford...very knowledgeable guys.
And yes, my Topit DVD's should be out in early March for those of you who inquired. Next will be a book on coins with Todd Karr's imprimatur on it....Stand-up stuff... no hold-outs or topits...but sleeves, pockets, etc...pure work.... Germany in late March and early April...in Idar Oberstein....plus a 4 day workshop and possibly a couple weeks of lecture tours....then a jaunt to Paris and Jean Fare mentioned a lecture or close-up workshop there...in mid-to late April...My own 7 day workshop will once again be held July 20-28 in Quebec....Also will be attending the World Magic Convention Feb 20-23 in Vegas...at Thomas Wayne and Joe Porper booth or just running around....say "HI"...best to you all.
Cheers...Imagination can make magicians of us all.

Wow,
Thought I read every post in the Show Me The Money category but somehow I missed this one till now. I really appreciated all the stories from so many detailing what real magic is. That was the most fun reading I have done in many months and like so many others have said it made me want to grab my coins and start really working them. Thanks to everyone who took the time to write their experiences up. I hope to get to meet a few of you at some point along the way. Special thanks to Mr. Fitch for joining in here and also to Chris "Linkster" Watson for getting this thread rolling. Nick Zender |

Hi Nick,
Don't think I can take credit, it's more about all the people who have posted their experiences, it has been a really good thread and one that keeps poppoing back up which is great. I bought bobs french lecture on Video and it is superb.... some great material, I also have all Bobs lecture notes which he was kind enough to sign for me. They have already served me well. December just gone I was playing at a function with my band the Flaming Sambucas (see link on my profile) and it was a posh black tie affair. It was the first time we had done something quite this up market. Anyway we were sharing a room with the other performers and much to my pleasure 3 professional magicians turned up The bass player from my band managed to drop me in it by saying that "you've got a fellow magicain here" pointing at me. I guess they must have this sort of comment all the time (Bit like with the band "Oh my mate plays Guitar") and I was put on the spot. I had been playing around with Bob's baseball vanish (in his lecture notes and on the video) and proceeded to perform that for all three magicians. The response was good with one of them asking "was that sl****ng* which I assume means he wasn't sure We went on to discuss a few bits and they were kind enough to show me a few things as well. So thanks Bob for helping me out in that situation the tuitional material has some great thought provoking essays in as well, I haven't looked at magic in the same way since. Bob, Looking forward to seeing your other material soon. Chris |

At first read you might think that Chris' comments were directed against Bob since he wrote in the negative, but he was actually complimenting him.
Written in the positive, his quote translates as follows: "Is this a stand up guy or what? He tells us exactly what he is bringing out to the market. He tells us the month Alain Nu's special is supposed to be aired. Bob's straighforwardness is refreshing" |

I'm really sorry if anyone thought my post was anything but praise for Bob's classiness. Thanks, Dan!!!!!!

The problem is because you say "No" and then a negative comment. So it is a double negative, which makes it confusing. It is just easier to write the positive instead of double negative.

The negative comment is only negative if it it's perceived that way;-)
Thanks Dan!!!!

OK Gentlemen...I have more specific news now on the Alain Nu Specials. The network keeps changing dates and titles and rehearsal schedules. Its hard to plan anything. That's why I was a bit vague before. Its April 24th at 8PM on TLC channel
(EST). It may be called "Mindgames"...though we'd certainly like to change that. It shows a lack of imagination on their part. Its been a fun project to do... consulting with the guys, writing scripts and helping Alain with his performance. If you ever do TV...get someone you trust to bounce ideas and impressions off of. It'll help you a lot. TV is a different animal... What's this to do with Coin tricks?...OK...the Bob Fitch Topit Workshop DVD's will be out in a couple of weeks. I can't wait myself...Not in time for the German trip, but finally out. I saw the thread on the Blaine Coffee Cup trick which I invented...Yes, it was a live street person...he did drink out of the cup...Blaine did hand him back the cup at the end....yes, it's tv...different thinking for the one-eyed monster. And yes, I will write a small booklet on it at some point...when there's time. I've started sending Todd Karr info for a new coin book. I want to get all this stuff out of my junky drawer of a brain, while I still can do it...Not sad, just a fact. My best to all of you. And yes, I'll accept negatives too...lots to learn yet. Wasn't it Copperfield who never asked how you liked the show...but what you didn't like about it? Cheers, Bob F.
Cheers...Imagination can make magicians of us all.

I actually own a lecture video of Bob discussing topit work. I bought it at a magic flea market. All I have to say is WOW! And I don't say that often. His thinking is totally offbeat. I love how he has put so much thought into incorporating what he knows about body motion into the magic. He has so many techniques that eliminate the "throwing" action that you see so many people do with a topit. It's quite stunning actually. As soon as I viewed it, I broke out my topit jacket again and began working.

It's been a joy for over 20 years for me to interact with Bob Fitch as a great friend, mentor, acting coach and the father of my only child!
Bob's long been known as one of the true masters of the Topit. His work on the subject is legendary. His reputation for taking knowledgeable magicians to the cleaners is also legendary. Perhaps the most amazing part of his story is Bob's not a full time professional magician. He's done a ton of magic professionally on stage, TV and the movies but not show after show after show. So how does Mr. Fitch fool everybody. First, he really has thought long and hard about the methods and technigues he uses. Before the cat was out of the bag when we released the Fitch Kohler Holdout System usually when I heard magicians discuss Bob's magic they ended up in an arguement because nobody (except a very small closed mouth group of friends) knew his work. Now the rest of Bob's magical arsenal is coming out. You'll have to wait a little longer for Bob's book with Todd Carr, but the other major tool is jus moments away...The Topit. The main reason Bob's destroyed virtually everybody with his original magic is his diabolical use of our holdout system clevery integrated with his mastery of the Topit. Eash is an atomic bomb, count them there are two about to be dropped on your head. I'm very proud to have had the honor of working with Bob on both projects. Finally, the Bob Fitch Topit Workshop is at the duplicators. This is a monster project. We shot the footage last year and it took months to complete the edit. The amount of information is simply staggering. Over 4.5 hours of Bob taking you through many different topit designs, all of the improvements, choreography (not dancing), techniques and routines to help you find yourself and the best way for you to make the Topit a valuable tool for you. It doesn't matter if you're tall, short, thick or thin Bob will show you many exciting techniques for all types and styles of performance/performers. The Topit Workshop is a three volume set. It will only be available as a set as the information builds a strong foundation for the viewer and goes up from there. You need to see all three volumes. The DVD's are truly encyclopedic in nature. Bob takes you step by step and teaches you everything you need to master this very valuable-much abused tool. There's a lot of brain food here folks...here's a crumb for you to think about...Bob has methods where you DON'T toss and object so you can never miss. But I'm only scratching the surface. These DVD's are very deep and will get those new to Topit work up and running in the right direction and will give to those who've used the Topit for years a shot in the arm of amazing new ways to use this amazing tool. The Topit Workshop will be distributed world-wide by Murphy's Magic Supplies. Retail Price $99.95 The DVD's should be in the stores in the very near future. Don't miss this magical milestone... And remember, we are still leasing the Fitch Kohler Holdout System which together with The Topit Workshop will give you the tools to become Bob Fitch (except for the 50 years of show business as an actor, dancer, spokesman, acting coach, dancing coach, magic consultant, father of six etc., etc., etc.) All the best, Bob Kohler |
