Cube26 using final offset on each little square
Instead of numbering the little squares 1 thru 26, this offset method puts the actual deck offset position number on each little square. IE: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50. Note that the very first little square has an offset of zero. The advantage of memorizing the offset number on each little square is that if you want to do positional calculations there is no multiplying by 2 (the offset number has this accounted for). Then to know the position number of a named card all you have to do is add 1 or 2 to the offset number (depending on whether the card is the first or second of the "PA" pair in the little square), Playing card Human names association with playing card (my names, you can replace with your own human names): AS Snoopy (thinks he is a flying Ace) 2S Leprechaun (has 2 shovels to dig up pot of gold) 3S Supremes (3 black singers) 4S Battleship (4 ships dug up from Pearl Harbor) 5S Gary Cooper (5 shovels protecting his chest) 6S Lizzie Borden (used 6 shovels to bury her dead) 7S Samurai (used 7 shovels as attack weapons) 8S Snowman (he looks like an 8 and shovels used to make him) 9S Cat Woman in black wetsuit (cat has 9 lives, spades are black) TS Farmer (uses 10 shovels to dig up garden) JS JFK (Black Jack riderless funeral horse) QS Latifah (black queen) KS Henry the 8th (bad black King) AH Cupid (main controller of love/heart) 2H Amelia Earhart (2 hearts lost at sea, her and Fred Noonan) 3H Andrew's sisters (3 heartthrobs of WWII) 4H Beatles Ringo Starr (part of 4 heartthrobs) 5H Spice Girls (5 girls of love/hearts) 6H Miley Cyrus (she has a sick heart, true congenital problem) 7H Dance Moms (7 day honeymoon on cruise ship) 8H Marilyn Monroe (the 8 looks like her figure and guys love/hearts her) 9H Col. Example:
DSHoCk Harding Stack on Cube26 using Offset method: Construct the mnemonic story to place in the 26 little squares on the Rubik's type Cube (the numbers below with a period after them are the final offset number, always even, for each of the 26 little squares): Offset#: 0. Sam Jones with a sword chasing 2. Ringo Starr who's stealing 2 bases and putting them in his pocket while running towards 4. Jack Sparrow who is frowning at 6. Tom Brady with outstretched arm saying heil to 8. Rusty Staub who is now fastball pitching to 10. Jack Tut who has a carrot nose pointing at 12. Spice Girls who are throwing stones at 14. Joyce Brothers in a car motoring towards 16. King Henry who is oiling his jaw with an oil can so he can sing like 18. Frank Sinatra is slapping 20. Queen Victoria who is scratching 22. Miley Cyrus with big eyes sticking out because she is seeing 24. A policeman sinking a 26. Cupid who is pointing at 28. Goliath with a golf club hitting 30. Winston Churchill who has a shepherd cane which is grabbing the 32. Dance Moms who are throwing footballs at the 34.Terminator who is drawing a pistol to shoot 36. Amelia Earhart who is yodeling at 38. Babe Ruth getting married to 40. Snoopy who is mooning 42. Marilyn Monroe who is reaping 44. Macbeth who is chopping 46. The Andrews Sisters who are twisting 48. Jack Benny who is slam dunking 50. leprechaun who is rapping |

If you are just using the Cube26 method with mnemonics in order to know the next sequential card then there is no need to memorize the offset numbers (in that case just memorize the running mnemonic story all the way through). The Harding stack is one of the few stacks that would benefit from having a separate method (such as Cube26 with next card mnemonics only) to know the next card because the Harding stack has its own built-in algorithm to mentally calculate a card's position (thus no need for the offset number).
But if you have a non algorithmic stack that you want a relatively easy method to also calculate a card's position then you will need to memorize the offset numbers with each little square. To do this you will need to incorporate the offset number of each little square at the beginning of each mnemonic story for that square. Example: "18. Frank Sinatra is slapping 20. Queen Victoria who is scratching 22. Miley Cyrus with big eyes sticking out because she is seeing" You will need to embellish the above to mentally be something like: "18 year old Frank Sinatra is slapping 20 times Queen Victoria who is scratching the number 22 on the back of Miley Cyrus with big eyes sticking out because she is seeing" and so on. The "years old" works well for the offset numbers, but it is good to find other number related things to associate with the first card (the person) on each little square (like what was done above on Queen Victoria and Miley Cyrus). Positional calculations: Card to number: think of the little square offset number for the spectator named card. then just add 1 if the spectator named card is mentally the first of the 2 cards in that little square, but add 2 if it is the 2nd of the 2 cards in that little square. Number to card: round down to the next even number below the spectator named number. Think of the two cards at that offset square number. If the original named number is odd then it is the first of the two cards on that square, otherwise (even number) it is 2nd of 2 cards on that square number. Next Card determination: Simple: Just remember where the current card is in the mnemonic story and proceed one notch in the story. Example: Suppose you know the current card (using DSHoCk Harding) is the 9S then you know it is Cat Woman or Scratching in the story (one or the other will be used in the story, never both). In the example you will have memorized that the word after Scratching is Miley Cyrus therefore the next card is the Miley Cyrus card 6H. Note that the current card could be a Person word or an Action word. It really doesn't matter which. To know the next card just go with next pertinent word in the story. |
