Like many of us, I have loved Max Maven's "Kurotsuke" effect since his 3-DVD set came out a decade or so ago. It became an instant "classic." Maven's pioneering version was astonishingly low-tech, and his method is enjoyable to perform.

Not much time elapsed before people sold products that presumably "improved" on Mavens method and props. Several involve electronics. Yes, I have purchased and performed a couple of the newer editions. I would not have guessed that our small community "needed" yet another version.

But this year, John Morton--of "Baby Book" and "Twins" fame, has offered his "Imposter" option. His method is outstanding, the prop is distinctive and fairly low-tech, and his mind has taken the performance of such an effect in promising new directions. It is reasonably priced for what you receive.

There has not been much, if any, buzz about this on the Cafe. I am grading it a 10/10, excited to perform it, and to commend it to many of you. As far as I know, John's website is the only place currently offering it.

Just as a matter of historical interest, the method John uses in Imposter was first published in a little book called 'Unconventional' in 2006 (H&R Magic Books).

All the best,

Thanks, Christopher.

Mac, go to John Mortinos website--custommagoc.co.uk

It reads that Imposter will be "available soon."

It is actually out, but the website is not updated. At the bottom of his site is a space to email John. He will tell you how to proceed.

Do you always use this only for "Who is a liar?" or any other games too?

It has the same range of possible themes or topics as the other Kurotsuke variations.
