Is there a good video or book(let) for a beginner to the linking rings?

http://www.stevensmagic.com the Greater Magic video library version. Has several approaches. Many of the specialized tapes/dvds don't give you the basics.

And you can always try the search function. Just about every ring routine available has been discussed here.
The books and video/dvd recourses have been given in several threads. The search is half the fun.
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!

Hello:
A couple tapes/DVDs that are good for the beginner are: 1. Brad Burt's Linking Rings Video - Brad is an excellent teacher, and will go over all the small details like how to position your hands on the rings, etc. 2. 25 Tricks with Linking Rings - I haven't watched it, but others have liked it. Again, real basic information for someone beginning with the rings. And, the video is cheap - around $10 or less. I would start with these two. The Stevens video that Pete mentions is good, but mostly assumes you have a working knowledge of the rings. Ron |

Excellent. Thanks for the info. Will any of these references include ideas for routines and patter themes?

Jeff McBride's "McBride Magic On Stage" Vol. 1 has what you're looking for. It includes: Types of rings to use Flourishes Spins & Twirls The Crash Link The Centrifugal Force Unlink Dan Harlan's Missing link Plus, the routine (Jeff's), broken down into 3 phases, ending with the ring "figures," The Globe, Opening Flower, and ending with the 6-ring Chain Finale. http://www.llpub.com/zenshop/index.php?m......pID=1210 Click on the above link. Hope this helps! Doug |

Lewis Ganson's "Routined Manipulations" & "Routined Finale" (books) have some good info about rings. One book contains a worked out routine the other some handling and a good false count (Ken Brooks). Al Schneider uses a similar false count on his DVD's (llpub). Al's routine is very good and the handling is not very difficult. I too think McBride's Magic on Stage tapes are a great resource for LR moves and routining.
