I would strongly advise against using Daytona, not only for all the reasons listed above, but also because I placed an order at the end of August. The following day, I received an email from them that of the six items I ordered, only three were in stock, and the other three, although not listed as out of stock, were, in fact, out of stock. The email stated that one of the out-of-stock items would be ordered from Murphy's (as of this date, it has still not arrived). Nothing was said about the other two items. I received the three items that were in stock along with an invoice that said the other three were on back order. I immediately wrote back to ask when they would expect to receive those back-order items which I did not receive, and to this day, I have gotten no response. I have written to them several times since then, but they refuse to respond. This is simply the worst customer service I have ever experienced or been subject to from any online magic store. I will never order from them again. Fellow magis, please beware of this outfit.

It's a *** shame. For decades, Daytona Magic was a great place to shop, order from, have dealer shows come to your club events from, or just hang out at. I understand the expiration dates that we all have. I retired two years ago. I can't blame Harry for deciding that he'd had enough. Sadly, he sold his good name to someone who just doesn't value the reputation behind that name. I hope that when the history of the brick & mortar magic shop era is written, it will be kind to Harry for his many, many years of dedication prior to an error in business judgement.

I had the exact same experience. I had to call them a few times. They did give me my money back, about a month later as I recall, but yes, they are a horrible shop to try and buy from. I'll never shop with them again.
The fact that this is their business model is ridiculous. |

Yeah they just take your money and hope they can find the items somewhere, and wait a month to refund if not, and only if you stay on them. That is why I always ask before ordering to be sure. If they keep this up there will be a lot of complaints filed with the BBB, or maybe some lawsuits will straighten them out.
They did the same thing to me when Harry was there too, and I talked to him directly, so he is no Saint either. He did the same thing with some books I ordered.
The great trouble with magicians is the fact that they believe when they have bought a certain trick or piece of apparatus, and know the method or procedure, that they are full-fledged mystifiers. -- Harry Houdini

As an update, I did call them again last week, and the person I spoke to said it was unusual for that to happen, and if I email him, he will take care of it. So, I emailed him, and, after a couple of days of hearing nothing, I emailed them again and finally got an email response, and I again reminded them that I just wanted a refund for those items that I paid for that were not in stock. Later that day, I finally got my refund.

Before ordering any magic from a website store, it's a good idea to contact them beforehand and check to see if they have the items in stock. Pay no attention to the "in stock" message next to the item.
I've been burned too many times already ordering props that weren't in stock. |

I remember visiting Daytona back in the mid 90’s whilst vacationing in Florida from the UK, I also remember my Dad buying Rocky the Racoon whilst we were there! Great memories.

One of the absolute worst places to buy anything from so don't waste your time. Lies and attitude. Don't be a dummy and fall for the owners stupid tricks. They have horrible reviews for a reason.

They kept the name, but it doesn't have the in-joke significance it used to.

Wow. Great news. Maybe he can turn things around and provide better customer service. I'd love to have another option to buy from.
If anyone takes a hit for the team and tries them out, please let us know about your experience. |
