I'm looking for a good card trick that I can do on the street, without a table. I know this forum isn't for gimicked tricks but I like them too.

It obviously depends on your skill and on what tricks you like.
I would probably do Dr. Daley's Last Trick followed by Sanverted by John Carney. They are strong, quick and happen in the spectator's hand. |

If you haven't got them get Michael Ammars Easy to Master Card Miracles DVDs. Vol 4 has my favorite card trick on it.

I'm with Mike, An in hand Triumph always goes over well.
I like to have a spectator find their friend's chosen card. I do a very simple one where the chosen card is controlled to the bottom and the Spectator drops a face up card like a joker , Ace or a card of their choosing face up onto the deck as I Hindu through the deck and drop the top talon onto the face up card leaving the two cards face to face. Super easy. It ain't pretty but it is all about the by play and fun. I totally love to do this for a Grand Parent and Child with either one being the "Magician". If you have a Memorized Deck you can have a packet cut and the bottom card is shown as the chosen card. (You will glimpse the top and bottom cards of the packet you are left with) The top packet is given to the Spectator who is asked to shuffle their card in to the packet. Let them spread the cards in a fan and look at them and then into your eyes.(turn the deck in your hand face up) Call for all the cards to be given back to you in a way that rebuilds your stack ending with their chosen card They can pass the hand to other spectators, hide the backs of the cards, take off Glasses to avoid reflections... anything to add variety and fun. You can say stuff like , I hope you don't play poker, or I think you're looking a a low card. Just have some fun with it. Once again, it is not high art. It is all about the interaction with the group and letting them shine if they say funny things. - Mary Mowder |

While I've performed his routine several times, I never claim to have done it on the streets. When I watched Gene Anderson perform his Si Stebbins card routine, I could totally see it playing on the streets. Street characters tend to be a bit cheeky which fits the style Gene performed this in. The routine uses the stack to identify the spectator's cards. Done first by sight, then by hearing. The middle parts can be left out due to counting and decently hard math.
The last part is a lie detector that might normally use a table but I envision two spectators using their hands to hold the card packets. One answers (lies or tells the truth) about color and suit, the other about value. The spectator's thumbs can hold the indicator cards out jogged on top of the pack. Perform the value indicator pack in the left hand while the chosen card is in the spectator's right. Just a thought...
The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge.

In-hand Triumph is always killer, you can use a cocktail shaker to 'mix' the cards back in order (saw this originally done by Michael Vincent, not sure about previous credit).
As a matter of fact, one of Michael's video sets from Alakazam IIRC is all about stand-up card magic, and it's all very powerful and entertaining AND mistifying. Lots of Hofzinser. Also, if you want something with more of a street feel, just check out Jim Cellini's work. His card to pocket is magical. |

Lots of good stuff mentioned here…
I would simply add… Learn a good peek and you got yourself one heckuva good mentalism effect with cards for anywhere you go. I can do all sorts of things with cards now (Though mostly just a decent-at-best coin guy) but learning a good peek allows you great and immediate powers that cannot be discerned by the specs. Just a regular deck of cards, a riffle of the edges, they select a card and you come to tell them the card that is only in their mind (I always play it that way). You can even do some creative things once you know what you need to know, even 2 specs can be used. It’s just up to your creativity with it. Perfect little card trick for anywhere you go, from the streets to the suites.

Hi MeetMagicMike,
I've been meaning to ask you: What *is* your favorite card trick? Bob |

The slop shuffle triumph is fun because it can use a great story line that can cover every move (ending with a "drunk man" doing the slop shuffle...). All in your hands..and fast. Lynn

What kind of audience are you wanting to show? One-on-one, crowd, small group? Or are you looking for something to gain attention?
