Craig says in the video that he put a lot of work into figuring out how to make this work. I have no doubt this was an interesting intellectual exercise; but I think the procedure is way too fishy.
In fact, it's a really fishy way to "select" just one card, because there is no justification for turning the cut cards face-up. It is an action that is required by the method; but makes no sense whatsoever in the context of the effect. I have only ever seen one effect that uses this technique in a way that makes sense. It is Los Angeles Opener by Gordon Bean. This is an Open Prediction effect, so it makes perfect sense to turn the cards face up to check they do not include the predicted card. If you want a great effect using this technique, this is the one! And if you want a Spectator Cuts The Aces effect, I would look at some of the many other solutions out there. Craig has created some great magic (eg CHOP); but this is not (IMHO) his best. |
