I'd like to add Chameleon Silks to my walk around, but I don't like the small gimmick. There is one I've found that says it will hold 2 45cm, or 17.7 inch, silks. Using Bob's equivalency chart I'm thinking I could load 3 18 inch diamond cut silks in this.
Does that sound right? Thank you, Levi

The math looks right the way you put the problem (that is, putting 3 18inch diamond silks in same space as 2 17.7 inch square silks):
17.7X17.7 = 313.3 square inches. So, two would would be 626.6 square inches of material. An 18" diamond will act about the same as a 12X12 inch silk. So that is 12X12 = 144 square inches. Three of these would be 432 square inches of material. 432 is less than 626.6. So three of the 18" diamond cuts would take less space than two of the 17.7" silks (assuming the same density of material). However, I am not sure that this is the way the problem should be viewed. With chameleon silks the gimmick needs to only contain two silks. So I am a little confused regarding that constraint. Also, the challenge with chameleon silks is that the gimmick needs to be a certain diameter and also needs to be only partially filled to be manipulated in the appropriate way. I am not sure a gimmick which can hold two 17.7" silks would be able to be manipulated in that way. This constraint and possible alternatives were discussed here: https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......forum=54

Levi, this improved chameleon silks gimmick may be something you would want to try?
https://tomladshawmagic.com/chameleonsilkgimmickdeluxe Personally, if I was going to do it, I would use the Palmo gimmick. .

David, that's actually the one I've been looking at. I'd like to start with "hands empty", produce a silk and then do 2 color changes. If possible. that's why I'm wondering about doing a 3 silk load in that gimmick. Palmo is a little big for me, but anyway... I'm just kicking ideas around and seeing what the experts have to say.
Maybe 3 12 inch diamonds? I'm looking at doing this for walk around and table hopping.

So, funny thing, after I posted this that exact gimmick was flying off the shelves. Weird timing I guess. But Tom Ladshaw had a few in stock and really went out of his way to work with me on figuring out the load. That gimmick takes 3 18 inch diamond cut silks with no problem. It's smaller and easier to conceal than a Palmo. I'd say it's still pretty large though. Tom sent me the measurements. 2 3/8 by 1 3/8 inches at its widest.
The reveal of the large silks looks very nice. I still need to work on the handling, but so far I'm happy, I can see this working well. I am leaning toward using this as an opener at tables with children. For the vanish I'll reach in my pocket to get my wand, a hot rod, and be reset while going into my next trick. Routine may change but that's what I'm working on for now. Tom Ladshaw is a pleasure to work with he definitely deserves our business.

Worked on the handling for a bit and tried it on the grandsons. Worked like a charm. Definitely a keeper.
