When I practice the Marlo Tilt and push the card under the top card, there is sometimes a small break between the top card and the rest of the pack from the spectators' point of view. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to solve this problem. Does anyone have a tip? Many thanks in advance!

Couple things here. First it seems as if the break you are using might be a bit large. No need for it to be that big, but that comes with practice.
Keep the deck in motion. I don't mean wave it around like a road flare, but keep some movement and they will never notice. Next keep in mind while YOU see it as the Grand Canyon, spectators really don't know what they are looking for, so a casual attitude goes a LONG way to cover many of these things. Don't be egregious about it but it is probably not as bad as ya think. As always engage them when doing something that needs shade. They will never see it if it never occurs to them to look. And yes PRACTICE is king. All of these things will flow smoothly with time in. And understand like with any move, you WILL get caught. Don't be afraid of it. The road to becoming great at these things runs right through getting caught unfortunately.

I second the point made about gap size. A quarter inch is probably a little too much. Look in the mirror.
Secondly, turn to your right a bit to kill the gap on the right side. The base of your left thumb and the thumb itself will cover the gap on the left side. So many possible tells can be eliminated by turning either left or right a bit. Look for your bad angle and either eliminate it or cut it way down by a turn either L or R. Mike

The perfect get ready for “tilt” is the Harvey Rosenthal/Daryl pop up move. Can be done with the hand being burned and leaves the deck and top card in perfect position. I learned it from Harvey in the ‘70’s. Be careful when browsing YouTube for a tutorial. Haven’t seen an accurate one yet.

It was my go-to break for Tilt until I learned about Garrett Thomas' method. You can find it in the June 2014 issue of MAGIC Magazine on page 65. Daniel, regarding your issue, the hand holding the break should have a light touch. Perhaps your grip is bowing the card. T.J. |

Also, keep the top card parallel the ground. It is the deck that must be tilted- not the top card.
And don't forget Howie Schwartzman's subtle convincer. |
