Tell me your favourite effect from the Royal Road and why it’s your favourite!

Let me just say that the Royal Road not only taught me great basics, but also taught me how to read magic books, something I'd never done before. It was my first magic book and I had never touched magic or cards (aside from playing with them) before.
I meticolously studied it (or so I thought) back to front, and performed some of its effects as my first performances for people. After a while, I saw someone perform Triumph for me. It absolutely floored me and it was so, so beautiful to have an effect end that way. Card is chosen, lost in the deck, deck is mixed face up into face down cards. Then, just by passing your hand over the deck, all the cards straighten themselves with the exception of the chosen one, looking at you face up smack in the middle of the spread. Chaos turning into order, and, quoting myself "But nothing happened. how??" I spent some time trying to research that effect, until someone told me "But it's in Royal Road, I know you read that book". It hit me then how important it is to actually go through every routine in a book multiple times, AND how important it is to read and learn how to imagine the 'effect' to the audience even before learning it. It's called "A topsy turvy trick" or something along those lines. It won't teach you a tabled Triumph but it'll teach you a in-the-hands Triumph. Exact same effect and stages. Absolutely beautiful (then, track down Vernon's version for a tabled one if you like it). In my opinion, one of the single greatest effects with cards ever invented. That alone can be a reputation maker, if done and presented well. |

"Now You See It!" This trick blows people away because they are certain you have not found their selected card. But they are wrong and it really floors them. And on top of it all, the only sleight involved is the glide, a relatively easy sleight. You should definitely give it a look, it is absolutely brilliant.
So many sleights...so little time.

Thought Stealer, in the section "The Overhand Shuffle, I". A spectator spells to a mentally noted card whose identity you do not know until the conclusion.
There are many tricks, and many effects, but rarely a Grand Effect. There are many entertainers, but few real magicians. Many technicians, but few artists who use their art to explore their vision. - Derren Brown, Absolute Magic

3 Cards Across. As a side note. Of the 3 dvd sets I own on the RRTCM I prefer Rudy Hunters.
