I just found this new release at expertmagic.com...Unripped (a torn and restored card):
http://expertmagic.com/html/store/unripped/unripped.html Thoughts? They have a demo of it as well. Seems quite clean! digitaltrip |

I couldn't find a demo of the trick. There was an MTV style quicktime file which focused on the spectators, and a few brief glimpses of the handling.
I think the ad gives away the secret with this line: "As if that weren’t enough, the magician then peels the signature from the card, gives it(the signature) back to the spectator, and returns the card to the deck." IMHO, this would definitely weaken the effect. |

I think that's just an added extra effect that they added in to complete the entire T&R plot, although that suggests something odd

The video is not a demonstration of the effect as far as I am concerned. I do not see from the video how the effect is superior to any other torn and restored card effect.

Looks good to me. I'm sure it will sit on my magic shelf next to Color Fusion in the "Awesome trick I would love to perform but am too lazy to learn it" category.

So has anyone actually purchased this yet? I'd like to see a review from someone who has this and a few other of the T+R cards on the market.

I just went to their pre-purchase forum and the creator Gared Crawford responded to some basic questions that he was posed. To quote him:
"There is a special set-up required that is nothing like any other t&r's. There are also some materials that are required that you probably already own. Once you have obtained the materials and made a very simple home-made gimmick you are ready to go! If you want, you can prepare several cards for the trick and it can be done over and over again with the same gimmick. This way you are able to waste only one card per perfomance whereas most t&r's use 2 and sometimes 3 cards. There is an advanced handling that requires much more set-up but is well worth the time and small cost of materials." digitaltrip |

I purchased this and am extremely dissapointed. Here is why :
First thing, parts of the ad are misleading, and so is part of the video. First is "Four thin and separate pieces are shown." Yes, that's true somewhat. It makes it seem you really are using 4 thin peices during the restorations, but you are not. I thought maybe this was a revolutionary concept, but its just a little misleading. Second, "Each piece is shown before each restoration, there are no "bluff" restorations." Pretty much the WHOLE routine is a bluff! The card is NOT EXAMINABLE. The instructor actually tells you to hand the card out, when its barley examinable. He says they wont notice, but give me a break, you just tore and restored a card, they will be examining EVERY peice of the card. And its not like a little bit is not examinable, pretty much 50% of it. In the video he hands it out to someone, and to me I thought "Wow, examinable right then? Cool!" When it really is not. Third, the elements you have to make for this are ridiculous, considering the fact is not examinable. I'd rather use Daniel Garcia's, it takes 10 seconds to setup, and its examinable at the end. You have to construct a FEW things for this to work, in comparison to one thing for Daniel Garcia's version. Overall, I am extremely dissapointed with ExpertMagic. I thought maybe the products would shape up after Color Fusion, which was pretty good. Save your money.
