I did a quick search and really didn't find anything along this topic. Sorry if there was and I missed it. But does anyone mark their card deck boxes to tell them apart? I have like 10+ red backed Bicycle card decks and struggle to keep track of which is which.
Just to name a few: 1. My regular practice deck. Shuffles, cuts, sleights... 2. Deck set up for Envylope. 3. Deck set up for Profile. 4. Blank deck for a different version of an effect I do 5. Rising card deck 6. Deep Astonishment deck 7. Regular non-gaffed or prepped performance deck 8. Spare blank deck 9. Signed card replacement card deck 10. Spare new decks I have fewer blue backed decks so they are less of a problem. Anyone have any thoughts they would like to share? Thanks! Scott

I do. I just use a fine point marker to write the initials of what deck it is in an inconspicuous area.

I use a sharpie to put the initials of the deck right on the box. You can hide the marks with your hand but really, no one is looking.

If storing them upright, you could separate them with index cards that are slightly longer than the height of each box. Of course, the exposed portion of the index cards would be labeled and visible at a glance.
You could also use 3M colored page flags and stick them to the back of the box with the flag sticking up. A sharpie can be used to label the colored part without smearing. I store mine flat and just write on the bottom of the box (where the bar code is). If your question is pertaining to pocket management - I recently watched a lecture in which the performer punched the box from the inside to give it a braille marking. I can't imagine you're carrying that many decks during a performance, but it never hurts to add an extra layer of certainty even if there is only one extra deck on your person. |

A popular marketing phase "Just do it". Mark the decks so it's easy for you to discern. Like Magic Mike said above "No one is looking"

I never use card cases when performing. Too much 'faffing about' taking them out; making sure you have all the cards removed (if set-up); temporarily disposing of the box somewhere, etc. It's just all unnecessary downtime in my view.
Moreover, card cases (particularly these days) appear to have the lifespan of a Mayfly. Fournier, in particular, don't even possess that longevity! There is possibly no worse way of making a poor impression than throwing down some dog-eared/grubby piece of cardboard - particularly where people are eating. I've seen this happen oh so many times over the years. Along with using grubby cards, there really is no excuse - particularly if you are working for a decent fee. Some people will notice these things - don't be under the false impression that they won't. Performing for mates down the pub, is clearly a different issue. When I worked professionally (now semi-retired), I used two packs - one red-backed that was stacked, went into my right jacket pocket. The other shuffled blue pack went into my left jacket pocket. The cards were loose, the only thing contained in each jacket pocket - easily grabbed then straight into the routine. I never changed this set-up for years - so didn't even have to think about it. If however, you are purely chasing this avenue for storage purposes, then mini Post-it notes could be something to think about - rather than physically writing on the case itself. An option perhaps - irrespective of whether the cellophane is still in place or not.

I use these Avery labels. They have labels that are considered permanent or removable. I use the removable labels in case I want to take it off - for a performance perhaps.
You can put them on the top, sides, bottoms or box face. https://www.amazon.com/Avery-Self-Adhesi......8-1&th=1 |
