On page 57 of Principles and Deceptions by Arthur Buckley he describes Allan Shaw's Vanish of a Coin as follows "If I had to take only one method of a vanish of a single coin, I would unhesitatingly choose this one..." I have never found another magician familiar with this vanish and I am posing the question here. Has anyone seen this vanish, learned it from the text or is familiar with it?

Though not the exact same vanish - Michael Ammar uses a back palm vanish to topit ditch in his Topit video/DVD. The back palm vanish looked quite deceptive.

Hey Lonnie,What a surprise seeing Allan Shaw's Vanish of A Coin mentioned.
If you have any questions at all regarding this vanish, I would be more than happy to help you. Not only do I do it.....Let me tell you who showed me!

I learned this back in the eighties.......I met a old man in Vegas claiming to be a magician...He showed me the exact mechanics invoved to execute this vanish...The old man said his hands were not what they used to be...I figured he was bluffing about being a magician,,,,( BOY WAS I WRONG )so he couldn't do it that well....He showed me this with a silver Dollar and a casino chip. I showed him my coin moves,he said I should show the world ....(I should have listened to him !)....At the time I never heard of him.
We were in BOB STUPACKS CASINO...VEGAS WORLD...IT'S NOW CALLED THE STRATISPHERE. To Make a long story short...He was a very nice guy and also one of the very first persons I showed.....A silver dollar penatrating through my cheek ,out my mouth. He was so impressed with my back palming a casino chip..he said SHAW'S VANISH WAS FOR ME! SO HE TAUGHT ME IT IN DETAIL...... When he died , I was a few years into magic again and realized who he was.....IT WAS JIMMY GRIPPO ... SO that's HOW I LEARNED THIS VANISH.

I also learned the Downs EUREKA PASS just this year after trying to figure the mechanics out for years and couldn't. A Magigian name PETER ?, showed me.

I just thought ,I would mention that story to you Lonnie.

YOUR friend,
MICKEY

Thanks Mickey! I thought I was the only one that had ever heard of that vanish. Love the story. Does the vanish look as good as it reads? I could never work it out. The photos in the book are hard to follow. I assume the coin looks like it tumbles out of your right hand into your left. I'd love to know more. BTW PM me your email address, I'll send you something that I think you'd like to see.
