It’s rare that I get excited about coin magic books or coin magic material. I tend to have very specific tastes. That said, I’m super excited for Rick’s new book! I’ve always been a fan of him and his material.

My new book, CALICO, is now available! This book represents so many things for me. The routines in this book have been brewing for over the last 10 years, and after many performances and tinkering, I was finally happy with all of them.

So, this is firstly a culmination of personal growth and creative pursuit in myself and my magic. It also proves for myself that I could finally use some of my other passions, like illustrating, to good use, and actually make a book. This book has also opened many new doors for me already, some of which I could never have dreamed of, like lecturing at MagiFest this past January. I’ve also had the chance to meet and be complimented by some of my idols and inspirations in magic, which has been both hugely gratifying and humbling. Some other things I will reveal to you later. Shhhhhh!

I can't thank you all enough for your support over the last few years through your comments, emails, and actual monetary contributions to my work. I would not be able to do this without you.

Much success with the new book. And I’m sure it’s filled with nothing but studious pieces of coin work, which has always been Rick’s way as to the art. I can remember long ago when he was first playing around with my Crimp Change and progressive finesses on the DeManche Change, and now a book on the art. Bravo!

I've had this book for a few days and I'm enjoying working my way through the sleights and routines. The book is full of beautiful, helpful illustrations from Rick's own creative hands. Best of all, this is a book for real world, close-up routines. A wonderful addition to my coin magic library. It's up there with the best. I look forward to another volume!

Seems like a must have

I’m really liking Calico by Rick Holcombe! It’s a nice-looking book, a great size for carrying around, and, given that I’m basically a beginner in coin magic, the illustrations are fantastic and really, really helpful (watching his YouTube videos in conjunction with this book works well for me, so far) Clear, well thought-out instructions, many useful hints, and even a newbie such as myself can follow along and visualize what’s supposed to happen (I have Bobo, but sometimes my brain doesn’t process the instructions as well as Calico).

Ok, enough gushing. Do I get any free coins?

I know I posted already, but felt compelled to do so again. I'm just finishing my first read through of Calico. As I said above, it's rare that I get excited about coin magic these days. Call me jaded. BUT, I can honestly say there wasn't a single item in Calico that I couldn't see myself using in some capacity. Rick has a great eye for good coin magic with engaging premises. All of the contents of Calico are within reach of any performer willing to put in some work to polish the effects, but none are overly difficult or 'knuckle-busting'. The explanations are thorough, but concise. The illustrations are stunning and the book itself is beautiful. I'm looking forward to going through the book again and working up my favorites. Hopefully this helps if anyone is on the fence about purchasing. Calico is well worth your time!
